Homemade Peanut Butter


 We ran  out of peanut butter a few days ago (the kids freaked out, they love it) and I wondered if I could make my own peanut butter.  So I used my immersion hand mixer, and ended up with a kind of dry chunky peanut butter.  We were hungry however, and I really made a huge deal about how amazing it tasted, hoping the kids would be just as amazed as I was.  

They were, it worked.  But, I decided to try in again, this time with our juicer that states you can make peanut butter with it, so I thought I would give it a try.

There are things in live that are so mind-blowing-ly (totally a word) simple that you feel like you should
have been doing them all along.

Like you somehow should have just known.  I love almond and cashew butter, so the thought of freshly
ground peanut butter just sounded sooooo good.
And it was!

Here is what I did to make homemade peanut butter:
Buy a bunch of peanuts, you can use any kind without their shell, I prefer unsalted, dry roasted.

If you use a juicer that has this capability (you can also use a food processor or good blender)
Add small handfuls and pulse until your peanut butter is finely ground and looks like the picture
below.

I have been making a couple cups at a time, since we can go through about a pound of peanut butter
every couple of days.   It tastes so good, and fresh.  I didn’t add any oil to mine, but if you like yours
a bit more creamy, feel free to blend in a bit of peanut oil or oil of your choice.

Do you have store bought peanut butter at home? Check out the sugar content and other ingredients,
you may want to try making your own freshly ground peanut butter and say goodbye to sugar you
don’t need.  Plus it just tastes so fresh, I’m a convert now.
