Stencil A Summer Pillow

One of the questions I receive the most is about using stencils.
If you have ever used stencils on fabric, wood, walls, etc…you know they have a tendency to move around
and not stay put.
NOT the time to have that happen.  You can quickly end up with your paint smeared, and the alignment
of your design has gone kaput. I had a chance to try out some GREAT new products by Tulip and I am
in love!! For tons of ideas & inspiration click here:
Here is what I used and LOVED…

I received some supplies recently from Tulip and I was really excited about trying the stencil adhesive
spray to use in conjunction with their textile stencils.  I began by using a basic pillow slipcover that has
a zipper, also by Tulip and ran an iron over it so it was nice and smooth.
This pillow cover was about to get summer-i-fied (I’m fairly certain it’s a real word.)
I sprayed on the adhesive, and applied the larger polka-dot stencil first, smoothing it out as I went.
Using a lightweight foam roller I applied some blue fabric paint (see picture above) and allowed it to dry
for a few minutes.  I didn’t wait very long before I applied a thin coat of adhesive to the flower motif
stencil and applied it over the blue polka-dot design I just made.
One more coat of fabric paint, this time in a fun bright green for the flower, and I removed my 2nd stencil
allowing the pillow cover to dry completely before putting my pillow form in it and showing it off.
And, it matches my kelly green pillow I love to bust out for spring and summer perfectly, score!
I really like how fast this project was, and how soft the paint is when it’s dry.
I was expecting it to possibly be a little crunchy, like when I use a fabric medium in acrylic paint.
Not crunchy, perfect for a pillow to put your head on and kick back to enjoy some down time.
And it’s that easy! The wheels are spinning now however as I look around at a few blank areas in my living
room, the possibilities!!
