Years ago a friend and I would make what we referred to as our yearly “IKEA Pilgrimage.”
It was a REALLY big deal people.
Our IKEA catalog’s were written in, folded, and ended up looking like origami by the time
we made it North to the Renton, WA location. But a few years ago, those of us living in
the Portland, OR Metro area received a gift. A gift so fantastic and amazing that I have to
pinch myself every time I drive by.
Yes, I have an IKEA like 15 minutes from my house.
I know right?
It’s a curse and a blessing, because those of us who love this place, it’s fabulous Scandi design,
and can’t leave without downing a few hot dogs in the cafe, and picking up some Lingonberry jam.
So I have come up with a system that involves shopping online, compiling an actual list, and an
extraordinary amount of self control. To wait until it’s time to go again, and not just drop in and
wander. It’s keep me out of trouble and actually helps me as I am creating new spaces and thinking
of things that will work in each.
Here is my latest IKEA drool list, I made a few notes on how and where I would use each item, and if
it needed a hack or I would use it as is. Here is what I am LOVING right now…
A mix of textures is a huge way to pack a thrifty punch in
any space. These TEJN faux sheepskins are so fun, I can pick
up a few at $9.99!! Love their 39″ x 23″ size, perfect for a
chair, footstool or to use a small rug.
Leave it like it is with an espresso finish and glass shelves, or remove the shelves
and give it a couple coats in gold. This beautiful VITTSJO wall unit is a great deal
The KOTTEBO basket, $16.99 made from coconut palm leaves looks natural & chic
I could fill these with Lego’s and books, and keep our family room neat and
kid-friendly at the same time.
While I dream of finding one of these arc lamps circa 1977 in all it’s brass glory,
we don’t have to wait any longer. Ths is such a good deal and on my list for
the next IKEA trip, REGOLIT is a super steal at $49.99 right?!
This MALIN CIRKEL fabric is really fun, I love how it’s
kind of watercolor, kind of Ikat/abstract.
And you can cover some big floor pillows or cushions
at only $5.99 a yard.
Just over six feet square, this pattern is so fun and would fit perfect in
our living room. The LAPPLJING rug is $79.99 not bad at all!
This BILD poster is just so pretty, a little something for my gallery wall,
you can pick one up for $8.00. In a modern or old frame, this is perfect to brighten
up a hallway or make a wall pop.
So awesome to hack or leave them fabulous just like they are
VITTSJO Nestling tables are so pretty and on my
wish list at $59.99 for 2!!
My boys share a room and are up next for an update with some big-boy
details and no more “little kid” stuff according to their sage design words)
They would dig this bedding for their shared space for sure.
The SPELPLAN duvet sets are $19.99
And they will need new bed frames, unless I can come up with something
amazing between now and then. TARVA bed frame $99. I like these simple pine frames for
their beds & can pull it all together with a cool rug…
HELSINGE rug is durable, and can be vacuumed too.
A must for these two! And $59.99 isn’t bad to pull all the bright
new colors together in their space.
I have a cool wood desk for the boys’ room, but a couple modern
chairs to go around the desk/table would make for a fun lego-building
fort-designing workspace. Love this color, and these SNILLE chairs are
So what are you loving from IKEA right now? I’m not sure I can wait to head over there after compiling
this list. I may need to take a break from painting and pick up a couple items off of my wish list.
Have a wonderful, blessed + creative day friend-love you SO!!
