Behind The Scenes On A Photo Shoot | With Amy From The Blissful Bee

Hello again! I’m Amy from The Blissful Bee and I’m so happy to be back at twelveOeight. Today I want to teach you guys about the behind the scenes of a photo shoot. You see so many beautiful photos out there in the blog world and you might sometimes wonder how to produce beautiful pictures of your own. For the most part, it’s pretty easy to do but there are a few very important things you will need first.

The most important part is the camera. Any digital SLR will work with a standard lens. I work with a Cannon, but I hear Nikon is just as good. The next most important part is natural lighting. I try to set up my photo shoots near large windows and will occasionally overexpose my pictures just slightly. Direct sunlight is not ideal because it will produce harsh shadows, but some soft natural lighting is perfect. The last element is always nice to have, but not necessary – a backdrop. You can use fabric, paper backdrops, bead board, curtains etc. Anything that will give a clear and simple background.

As you can see, I used a paper backdrop and just taped it to my wall. And of course, I’m set up near multiple windows so I can get that pretty natural lighting.

And here are my props! A few hydrangeas, Sunflowers… oh and of course my cat, Bailey, had to make an appearance too:)

Don’t those few elements make such a difference?? I hope my words of wisdom will get you all inspired to set up a little test photo shoot! Practice makes perfect:)

  2. Thanks Kim! I ordered it on Amazon.com! I just did a search for "photography backdrops" and eventually found this one. They also have it at Hobby Lobby too I've heard.

  3. Hi Tanya and Amy and thanks for the guest post. My little Nikkon Coolpix is 5 years old and Hubby promised I could get a new camera for my birthday. I am still researching but look forward to more "grown up" pictures and photo shoots. Hugs, Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide
