Bright + modern bathroom refresh

Heeeeyyyyyyyy friends!

So first, I hoped to share this a couple weeks ago but, Summers get busy and my little sister and her family just bought their first home just outside Seattle (yay!) so we spent a weekend helping them which was awesome!

About the latest project we tackled, here is a little background.

Our home used to be fairly neutral until 2022 hit.

I am not sure what happed but I turned 51 and wanted more COLOR.

Vibrant, fun color that makes you happy every time you see it. Here is our dining room and entry way, so fun!

We have not made any updates to the kitchen or our primary bedroom but the family room, entry, living room and hallway all have gone thru a colorful fun makeover.

I still have the primary bedroom and bath to try and get to but first, the hall/main bath.

This bathroom is shared by a 16, 13 and almost 12 year old. In addition to guests as our home only has two bathrooms and one is in our room.

So, I wanted it to be easy to clean, I wanted to stay on budget since I have done so much already the past few months, and it had to be fun.

There was a little shock as the kids saw the paint choices coming home and wallpaper going up but as it all came together they LOVED it ๐Ÿ™‚

And, this room being in the center of our mid-century modern 70’s house used to have ZERO natural light. So it was not only blah but really in need of some natural light! Enter the solution:

The first thing we did was install a solo-tube from Home Depot in the ceiling that runs up to the roof. What a difference! I am still walking by and trying to shut the light off as the room is so sunny now.

Here is a picture of the bathroom before installing the solo-tube, and I had started taping off the tile and sampling paint colors on the wall. With no natural light it always kind of looked yellow-ish and dim.

I went with a semi-gloss on the mirror and vanity in a fun bright coral color and I love how it goes with the shower curtain and wallpaper on the opposite wall.

I found the tiger rug on Society 6 and instantly loved it. It needed to be machine washable so finding something that tied in with my vibe that I could wash was important.

The wallpaper is from Amazon, which I initially was not going to use as there is no green in it. However, when the rug came in and the orange, blue and pink from the rug went with the wallpaper I was glad I had trusted my gut.

I also found the shower curtain on Society 6, I love ordering art and home decor from them as each order supports an artist!

The raffia juju hat was a bamboo paper plate holder with a whole lot of raffia and hot glue, I love how natural fibers bring a depth and warmth that every room needs.

The wooden elephant a thrifted find, lucite chucky beads from Hobby Lobby, and the vase I painted myself, you can find the tutorial here.

I decided to paint the baseboards the same color as the wall as this widens in popularity in the decorating world. I am so glad I did I love them!

Here is the breakdown for the refresh:

Shower curtain $60

Paint and supplies $75

Rug $30

Beaded rope $17.99

Wallpaper $32.96

Wall art purchased from Target last year, and remaining items I already had (yay for repurposing!)

Grand total $215.95 plus a little elbow grease and Diet Coke ๐Ÿ™‚

Well there you have it, I know this is not for everyone as it’s very bright but I can honestly say that there is a kick in my step that I did not have with my neutral abode. So for me, this is my happy place and I am so glad a joined team color ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you as always for reading friend, may you find time to create and find joy around you today, xo Tanya
