October Vignettes- Apples + aqua dining table setting

While we are still having some warm weather in the Pacific Northwest, Fall is certainly upon us.

The hydrangeas have turned from their gorgeous blues to soft green and pink tones.

The evenings have a chill that creeps in a little earlier than it did a few weeks ago.

Cozy Fall farmhouse porch + pumpkin drunk

Since we are still having days that are in the mid 70’s I don’t have the heart to buy a truckload of pumpkins only to see them go bad mid-October.

There is nothing like an early pumpkin purchase gone wrong to cure you of ever wanting to purchase them too early again.

While I share the shots of this year’s Fall Front Porch I will revisit the epic fail I am referring too in the not so distant past.

I give you Fall 2014.

Farmhouse style church pew before + after

We all seem have that thing (or twenty things) that we are looking for.

It might be the perfect long dresser to turn into a buffet.

The missing piece of china to complete the set we have worked on collecting for years.

Or, in this case the church pew.

The pew that eluded me, for so long.

Was finally mine.

Yep, I have been BEYOND excited to complete this before and after and share it with you! [Read more…]

How to dry hydrangeas + slowing your roll

The North side of our house has four gargantuan (that’s a real word right?) hydrangea plants.

These things are huge, gorgeous and they have intimidated me for 8.5 years.

This was the year I was going to win at hydrangea-ing.

For real. [Read more…]

Shabby sewing table turned desk before + after!

You wouldn’t believe it, but this desk was a break-away top sewing table in her former life.  A giant hole in the center of the desk top with two sketchy pieces of wood sitting inside.

We drove out to check it out as it was for sale on Offer Up, and I thought we would be saying, thank you and heading back home.

That is not how things went down, and I should probably know that when an impossible challenge is in front of us, Troy goes into major trouble shooting mode.

Knowing that he loves an impossible challenge, we headed back to Vancouver from Portland with the questionable project in the truck bed. [Read more…]

Farmhouse lantern gross to gorgeous!

Farmhouse lantern main #farmhouse #twelveOeight #diy

We almost missed this huge lantern when thrifting recently.

There it sat, super dirty and full of cobwebs, looking sad and sitting on the dusty floor of our local thrift shop.

It was the price tag that got out attention, $6.99 at Goodwill for a huge metal and glass lantern that is screaming for a makeover.  For a minute I wondered if this was a joke because this was a seriously good deal.  This beauty is over 24″ tall and did she land in our cart fast, as we discussed what her new life was going to look like.

Here is the before…..EW. [Read more…]

Painted mantel in the darkest of greys + Christmas sneak peak!

Christmas Backdrops for photography

The painting bug seems to strike at unexpected times.

I would think of spring and fall first, as one you are purging and refreshing your space for warmer weather and the other getting cozy and bringing in warmth all around you.

But right before Thanksgiving, not something I thought we would tackle.

Until I removed everything from our fireplace wall and hung a Barn Wood Christmas backdrops sign that I made.  Then I realized to really make the sign pop, the wall needed to be darker. [Read more…]
