Vintage style rug + our boho-farmhouse home office

Hello friends!

I wanted to share a quick refresh we did recently in our home office.

With a growing family I find that over the years I have re-purposed a few spaces in our home many times.

My home office has been a play room, spare bedroom, office, extra family room, office again, craft and art room, and I think it may very well be an office for good now. [Read more…]

Distressed Black Dresser before + after

As you know I am head over heels in love with painting furniture.

And my little green WWI era dresser has been in a few pictures over the past few years.

I loved bringing it home (originally $35) and deciding what to paint it.

I decided on a pretty Granny Smith Apple green a few years ago and never looked back. [Read more…]

AN AWESOME GIVEAWAY + Burlap curtains in the master bedroom

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and Happy New Year to you friend!

It’s been a bit quiet lately here on the blog, but the behind the scenes we have been busy bees working on our master bedroom makeover.

I love this space, and dreamed of what it could be for a long time.

But other things always seem to take me off track from creating a retreat that I love.

It has ended up as a laundry folding station, keeper of dusty exercise equipment and holding tank for stuff that made it upstairs and hasn’t found a home.

It has not been a retreat, or a relaxing space like I have always dreamed of.

Until now!!! [Read more…]

Favorites from 2017 + an Irish Blessing

Hi friends!

While I don’t have a brand new upcycle or DIY to share today, I just wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy New Year.

I started this blog 6 years ago, and had absolutely no idea what direction it might go or where I would be years later.

Having this space to make, and recreate, and talk with you brought more to my spirit than I could ever have offered to teach or show anyone else.

When a challenging personal time in my life came along, I didn’t have much to write about.

I thought perhaps the chapter had closed and wondered if I should start again when I felt the urge to write.

Am I glad that I listened to that small voice pushing me to log on and hit publish.

I learned to listen closer to that inner push, and have found my passion in the meantime.

Our Christmas home + what I learned about Christmas ornaments

Most years I find myself digging thru each and every box and bin for every last ornament and all the Christmas decor the house can hold.

You know you have more than enough ornaments when you can no longer see the tree.

This year seems to be different.

I finished the home office, and brought a few of our favorite things out, creating a few vignettes and called it good.

I kept thinking about how pretty everything looked and didn’t want to add any more.

Maybe I’m just getting older or deep down am craving more simplicity this year.

But I like it, it’s pretty, but simple and peaceful.

And just enough to make the kids eyes twinkle with excitement, so that is good enough for me.

I shared recently how much I am enjoying letting go of the little things that get too big when we focus on them.

To be honest it felt a bit strange to box up the remainder of the Christmas decor and put it back in the garage.

Cozy spots for Christmas: Merry + bright Christmas home office

Well before Thanksgiving I had visions of creating a spot in our home to read, relax, and enjoy the season away from it all.

Enter my home office which is STILL going thru what seems to be a three year makeover, but we put that on hold to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.

On the other side of this home office in the front of our house is my very messy desk, the computer I use for blogging, and an array of fabric swatches and crafting supplies.

But the other side of the office, right by the window, is where I created a cozy spot to enjoy one of our Christmas Trees, and some of my favorite things.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,

but the fire is so delightful. [Read more…]

DIY Galvanized Plate Chargers

I have always wanted a set of beautiful plate chargers, especially for the holidays.

And, being a thrifty mama I have had a really hard time justifying the price tag to amass enough of these to create a full place setting around our farmhouse table.

I have thought of picking them up at Dollar Tree, and painting them, but I just had not found a paint that looked close enough yet to the look I was going for.

Galvanized steel is kind of my jam right now.

We found a huge vintage galvanized handled tub on a local Facebook buying/selling site for lovers of shabby vintage goodness.  I will share it when I am done with the living room for Christmas.

I love it.

And once that galvanized goodness came into the house and waited for the tree to come home from the woods recently, I knew I needed to find a paint that looked as close as possible for my plate chargers. [Read more…]

How to flock a Christmas Wreath

Inspiration sometimes seems to strike quickly with some projects I have found.

Other times, the idea hangs around and I just have not sat still long enough to pull it all together in my head.

This time, the wreath in all it’s 1990’s glory hung in my garage for too long, a product of two blended households.

Spring, Summer and Fall, there she hung for too many seasons in a row before I finally decided to give her a fabulous makeover.

One that included a lovely flocking and some updated accessories.

As I began to remove all of the ribbon I kept thinking that this would have looked lovely on the set of Designing Women, remember that show?

Me too, I loved it and it made me want to be a Southern business woman who had shoulder pads to die for. [Read more…]

How to make a wooden wall sconce-fixer upper style

Remember the left over pre-fab white bead board from the back of the farmhouse church pew?

Yep, we found a way to use the last of it.

I have wanted to make something I can hang these Mason jar holders on for quite a while, but to date have just incorporated them on the dining table, porch etc…

So when we saw these metal hooks at the store recently, they made me think of the chippy white Mason jar holders, and well, the rest is another DIY that used everything we already had on hand sans the hooks.

What I really love about a project like this is

  1. I did not have to buy very many supplies
  2. I was able to use leftovers from a previous project
  3. I had enough Diet Pepsi on hand to complete the project without running to the store (WIN!!!)

October Vignettes- Apples + aqua dining table setting

While we are still having some warm weather in the Pacific Northwest, Fall is certainly upon us.

The hydrangeas have turned from their gorgeous blues to soft green and pink tones.

The evenings have a chill that creeps in a little earlier than it did a few weeks ago.
