Laundry room makeover progress

Our laundry room had become a very messy place, and was less than fun to spend time in.

That is until we were inspired to gut the laundry room and do the deepest deep clean in modern history.

I like to think of myself as a fairly neat person.

At some point we lost control and the laundry room became a scary place to run a load of laundry and get out of there before a tower of board games toppled you.

Or you just simply became disoriented.

And… top it all off, it had become boring.

Worst. Fate. Ever.

Borings-ville is what this already challenging laundry room has rocked for a bit now.

It’s an under-the-stairs laundry room that is a pretty small space as it is.

So, needless to say, that makes the makeover that much better!

Here are some of the things I am incorporating as I wait for the paint to dry.

I can’t wait for you to see it!

We have a white front loading washer in dryer in great condition so they are staying put.

But…the walls, are going to have a coat of this on them.

Vintage style rug + our boho-farmhouse home office

Hello friends!

I wanted to share a quick refresh we did recently in our home office.

With a growing family I find that over the years I have re-purposed a few spaces in our home many times.

My home office has been a play room, spare bedroom, office, extra family room, office again, craft and art room, and I think it may very well be an office for good now. [Read more…]

Farmhouse style church pew before + after

We all seem have that thing (or twenty things) that we are looking for.

It might be the perfect long dresser to turn into a buffet.

The missing piece of china to complete the set we have worked on collecting for years.

Or, in this case the church pew.

The pew that eluded me, for so long.

Was finally mine.

Yep, I have been BEYOND excited to complete this before and after and share it with you! [Read more…]

Washed canvas pumpkins + early fall

It didn’t take much for the Fall Bug to hit hard here at casa twelveOeight.

One rainy afternoon and a couple fall Scentsy cubes and I found myself going thru my fall decor in the garage…

Pinning some casseroles…

And thinking up a new way to ease our home into early fall without too much of a backlash from the rest of the tribe.

We have had many days in the 90’s and even over 100 degrees in the Pacific Northwest lately.

To say I am looking forward to some rain seems a little strange, but that is just too hot for this girl.

And, I happen to adore Fall, and everything about it. [Read more…]

Chindi style no-sew area rag rug

I have had a stack of these Dollar Tree rag rugs FOREVER.

They are in the “bin of conviction” (the things I HAD TO HAVE to make something cool then they sit for a long time)

Yeah, that bin.

Tell me I’m not the only one who may have more than one of these had-to-have-it stashes?

Oh good.

I have down-sized a bit over time but I am glad I have the stash of supplies that I have collected (yes, it’s an official collection of amazing stuff) because you never know when inspiration is going to STRIKE!

Yep, sometimes you get an itch to make something cool and there you are, lots of ideas and no supplies.

So, that is exactly what happened in this case.

I loved the colors of these small rag rugs so of course, I cleaned the store out however many months ago. [Read more…]

DIY Painted Feather Wall Art

How to paint watercolor feathers

Well I wish I had a better reason than just being plain old crazy busy that this project has taken FOREVER to share….

but it’s here in your inbox now and I can’t wait to show you how EASY this was!!

I have had this piece of wood, which is actually a painted shelf that went in an old entertainment center on my mind for weeks.

I have used it in a variety of ways around my house, but I kept thinking that a giant watercolor feather would look amazing.

Having said that, and not being a trained painter by any stretch (literally, stick figures are pushing my drawing talent for real!)

I was not really sure where to begin to get the gorgeous feather I wanted.

Our style (there really isn’t one so it’s funny to use the word “style” ha!) is a mix of Farmhouse, Bohemian, and stuff-I-like finds and DIY’s

all seem to come together.

Until I get a wild hair and decide to switch it all up and move things around, and paint, and drive my family crazy during the oh my gosh Mom has lost it and is pulling furniture all over the place and we are concerned (CREATIVE) process.   [Read more…]

Thrifted wood garden stool before + after!

I am SO excited to share this quick and easy before and after with you today.

Sometimes a dramatic change is simple and does not involve any fancy tools or lengthy amounts of time to complete.

And sometimes…

With a little paint, and some dry time…

Painted garden stool #diy #twelveOeight

A beautiful swan emerges from a dark old piece of furniture that is tired and in need of a refresh.

I found this wooden plant stand/garden stool piece for $9.99 at a little thrift store locally that I have not been to before.

It was nice and solid and initially I thought I would make a padded seat for the top, I love the direction it went once the paint began to dry.

Admittedly, I do paint a lot of things white.  But with grey walls and our larger pieces of furniture being fairly dark, a fresh, crisp white gives a space a whole new feel.

I love this Chalky Finish spray paint by Krylon.  I used less than one can and it covered over this dark wood very well. [Read more…]

Lace + leather floral bohemian dream catcher

Leather and Lace DIY Boho Dream Catcher #boho #diy #howtomake #dreamcatcher

I must have a thing with strings of lights, layers of texture and dream catchers.  Or a variation of one like the one we are making today.

When I was sifting through my craft supplies and found this embroidery hoop, and a yard of lace fabric I begin thinking about some of the open centered dream catchers that I have seen and loved.

Some have dyed ombre’ yarn, others have lots of greenery and flowers, this turned out having a bit of everything I have seen and loved.

Strips of lace, a little yarn and a few wooden beads, a piece of leather and some white pom poms for good measure.

This dream catcher came together pretty quickly and since our bedrooms all have at least one (yes I suppose you could say I love to make them!) this one may end up in my office refresh. [Read more…]

DIY recycled t-shirt wall art

DIY tshirt wall art #upcycle #diy #wallart #twelveOeight

I graduated from High School in 1989.

That puts me at 45 today, and while some things have changed so much, my love of rock t-shirts, all things Stevie Nicks, and dreams of travelling Europe with a backpack and train pass have never changed.

I grew up on a small working farm, raised by my organic-gardening grandparents while my mom sorted fruit for a local orchard.

On sunny days you could find my running between the fruit trees and when the weather was cold, pouring over my mom’s impressive collection of records and deciding if I needed to sew a new halter top.

Years have passed and I think I still have her first Beatles record in my own collection buried between some New Order and the Doors.

Somewhere in my teens a love of thrifting and upcycling emerged, and I suppose some might say hoarding.  I have however purged collected items many times over, keeping a core group of treasures that I am sure I could not live without.  So we will not call it hoarding but curating a collection of things that bring us joy.

Yes, that sounds so much better.

Recently while trolling through my local Goodwill I came across a navy tank top that had an embroidery skull that caught my eye. [Read more…]

Vintage find of the week + thoughts on semi-hoarding

The thrill of the hunt.

Scoring the deal of the Century.  Or perhaps the week depending on how much you like to search for treasures.

You see it across the thrift store/yard sale/antique fair/place you can find cool stuff and it will be yours.

As you weave your way over to the item-that-will-change-your-life-if-you-have-it another shopper stops to look at it.

Self-control kicks in and you hold yourself back (while quickly walking over to your new find) and once the other shopper has set it down and barely turned around, it is now in your possession.

You turn it over, and it’s EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR.

The price is right, and you do a happy dance, maybe on the inside of your head or a full-on happy dance.

I’m not going to judge.

Your new lovely, wonderful, fantastic item is placed lovingly in your vehicle, and you smile all the way home as you think of the 1,000 different ways you can use it.

Or, you know exactly where it is going to go.

And this, correct me if I am wrong, is the #bestfeelingever.

That is exactly what happened while my friend G and I were recently hitting a few local yard sales.  Kids in tow we felt brave, and with a burger and a Coke under our belts we could find anything that day.

floral 2

I saw this metal box, the above reaction kicked in, and I was drawn to it.

It looked pretty old, and my suspicions were correct, pre-WWII made by a company that was based out of Louisville, KY in the late 30’s. [Read more…]
