Our new home office + how to faux wallpaper your walls

Hello gorgeous, I have missed you!

We have spent every waking moment (when not at work) working around our new place painting and getting fix-its done before the rainy weather arrives.

I’m saving a few things for winter that are inside that desperately need a redo, like our kitchen that is getting a much-needed pantry.

Our circa 1978 main bathroom Farrah Fawcett may have feathered and sprayed her hair in.

And navy blue Corian kitchen counters that will either become butcher block or brushed concrete.

These are huge decisions and some of them are taking me a while to decide on.

So I keep pinning and sketching, and probably over-thinking (tell me I am not alone in this) and I have come to the point that I wonder if just going with my gut on each will be the winner.

I’m not usually one to err on the safe side when it comes to my home, I like to be a bit adventurous and try something new.

But since a bathroom remodel and kitchen counters are pretty big commitments I am ok with giving myself the time to figure out what I really want.

One decision that was SUPER easy to make was to try a beautiful new wall stencil for a quick spruce-up in our home office just off the kitchen.

I was provided some stencils to try out and share my experience with by Stencil Revolution and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

We are seeing wallpaper everywhere right now, and while I love the idea of creating an accent wall with wallpaper, the cost and difficulty of removal has always turned me off.

We had this desk at our last house, added a “new” $5 goodwill wood chair, and lots of plants with a few things we already had.   [Read more…]

AN AWESOME GIVEAWAY + Burlap curtains in the master bedroom

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and Happy New Year to you friend!

It’s been a bit quiet lately here on the blog, but the behind the scenes we have been busy bees working on our master bedroom makeover.

I love this space, and dreamed of what it could be for a long time.

But other things always seem to take me off track from creating a retreat that I love.

It has ended up as a laundry folding station, keeper of dusty exercise equipment and holding tank for stuff that made it upstairs and hasn’t found a home.

It has not been a retreat, or a relaxing space like I have always dreamed of.

Until now!!! [Read more…]

My Modern Bohemian Style

Sauder Nico chair 3

Our homes are an extension of our being and heart.

We laugh there, snuggle there, make new friends, and connect with old friends there.

We cook, make, move things around, and formulate so many of our hopes and dreams in theses spaces we can home. That’s why it’s important for us look for things that inspire us continually, and then put our own brand on it. My worst decorating fear is that my home will look “decorated” , I hope this never happens!

It’s so fun to see multiple people be given the same project or materials, and see how very unique and different the outcome of each can be.

I was recently invited to work with Sauder on their Style Lab feature within their amazingly inspiring site. Within these pages you find tons of beautiful photos, ideas, and how each of us as bloggers has taken our favorite Sauder pieces and created a space in our home that reflects our taste and the things we love. Decorating with photos + timeshel

How to decorate with photos 1

I didn’t ever know how much I enjoyed taking pictures until I began blogging.
With an Iphone in hand, I have captured some of our favorite family photos at home,
on the road, at the park, any many times have told myself to remember to print them.

But life gets busy, and I forget too often to not only share those great shots online but
capture them in printed form to enjoy all of the time.

I recently came across a cool app that has changed the way I save and keep photos.
Each month I can easily upload my absolute favorite pictures that I have on my phone,
and in no time at all they arrive in this awesome shel. [Read more…]

DIY Painted Canvas Pouf-Storage cube-Footstool

I know that’s kind of a complicated name but this little number can be used multiple ways so the only accurate name I could come up with was “Canvas Pouf-Storage Cube-Footstool.”

And if you are the kind of person to stand on your furniture (yeah me too) instead of finding a ladder in the garage well then we can add step stool to the list too!

Day 4: All You Need Is Love {free printable!!}

All You Need Is Love Free Printable twelveOeightblog.com #loveprintable #allyouneedislove #freeprintable #valentine #twelveOeightblog

Hello from the house of runny noses and coughs, I seem to forget that we always catch a cold in early January.
Similar to forgetting exactly how fun it is to give birth, get a root canal, or cough until you pee your pants…

Our New Year Week of Sickness has blindsided me yet again, and boy is it a hoot.

But fear not!

While I may be a few days behind in our No/Low Spend Challenge for January I have a pretty thing for you
today.  I bet you will forgive me if I tell you how awesome this looks printed out and framed.

And it really is totally appropriate for all year, but this mentions love, so it’s totes Valentines Day-ish too!
While deep down I know that we need a few things in addition to love, I believe that love is the greatest of
all things, and because of it you and I are alive, have joy, and live in this beautiful world.

Plus I am a Beatles fan, it’s genetic. [Read more…]

Happy last day of 2014 friends!!

I don’t know about you, but to me that just looks and sounds crazy!

But we are here again, saying farewell to another year, and welcoming in a wonderful new year full of hope, promise, and
some projects we can work on together!!

I want to thank you for your continued reading, encouragement, and ideas.
This has been an interesting year, with a mix of loss, joy, excitement, and truth telling.
Mixed in there was a whole bunch of laughter, hot glue sticks, and learning that made it a wonderful blogging year here
at twelveOeight.  And I have you to thank for that.  If you didn’t keep on coming back and reading, pinning and sharing
there would be no twelveOeight.

So thank you, thank you for making my dream grow, and turn into something unique and different, and far more wonderful
than I could have dreamed on my own.

Here are some of the DIY Projects that you loved this year, ready? [Read more…]

DIY Vintage Copper Marquee Lights

How to make Marquee Lights twelveOeightblog.com #marquee #marqueelight #marqueeletters #diymarquee #diyideas #diyprojects #twelveOeightblog

My boys are finally getting their shared room makeover they have been waiting so long for.

Of course I was so excited to show them the first thing I am making for their rooms, their own Marquee letters for their
initials.  They weren’t super excited about the copper color, or the lights until it all came together.

Aren’t project always like that?

You are kind of unsure until it comes together, and you are able to stand back and really check it out.
The boys were extremely relieved because the copper paint doesn’t look “pink” after all…not sure when it did, but ok.
And the lights aren’t “girly” but they are cool.

So, it’s kid approved and now everyone else wants one and can’t understand why I haven’t made theirs yet.
Sheesh folks, give a girl some time!
But I was secretly smiling as the positive feedback came in, and then tonight they stood behind me in the dark hallway
watching me shoot the final photos.

Hopefully they love everything else I am doing in their room.
It’s going to be very different than what they have had up until now. I can’t wait!

Ok, here is what I used to make my own DIY Vintage Style Copper Marquee Light on the fly: [Read more…]
