How to flock a Christmas Wreath

Inspiration sometimes seems to strike quickly with some projects I have found.

Other times, the idea hangs around and I just have not sat still long enough to pull it all together in my head.

This time, the wreath in all it’s 1990’s glory hung in my garage for too long, a product of two blended households.

Spring, Summer and Fall, there she hung for too many seasons in a row before I finally decided to give her a fabulous makeover.

One that included a lovely flocking and some updated accessories.

As I began to remove all of the ribbon I kept thinking that this would have looked lovely on the set of Designing Women, remember that show?

Me too, I loved it and it made me want to be a Southern business woman who had shoulder pads to die for. [Read more…]

Cozy Fall farmhouse porch + pumpkin drunk

Since we are still having days that are in the mid 70’s I don’t have the heart to buy a truckload of pumpkins only to see them go bad mid-October.

There is nothing like an early pumpkin purchase gone wrong to cure you of ever wanting to purchase them too early again.

While I share the shots of this year’s Fall Front Porch I will revisit the epic fail I am referring too in the not so distant past.

I give you Fall 2014.

Faux Succulent Wreath

Happy Saturday beautiful people!

Guess what? It’s raining in the Northwest (shocking I know) so I cleaned up my studio
area (which is half playroom/Lego Mecca and half my space) and I am going to try and
create my little heart out this weekend.

Since I have been blogging I have written I think one post on how to keep plants alive.

So what this means is, if you are going to go on a vacation, you might want to find another
home for them if you expect them to be watered.
It’s not intentional, it’s just one more thing to remember, and well a dog barks when it’s
hungry, plants need to up their game and come up with something besides a slow wilt. [Read more…]

Christmas Mantel | collected + made

Christmas Mantel main twelveOeightblog.com #Mantel #ChristmasMantel2014 #diy #rusticchristmas #christmascraft #twelveOeightblog

Hello and welcome to to my mantel tour 2014!

I could not be more excited to have teamed up with 14 other knock-your-socks-off talented bloggers to put together a
little mantel eye candy for you.  No matter what your style or theme is, you will be sure to find some inspiration here!

Before you start looking for the fireplace, I will let you in on a little secret…
It’s on the other side of the room, and has a Christmas tree in front of it.  It’s a gas fireplace with a tile surround, and
I usually keep my tree in that spot, and since it’s more of a fantel (fake mantel) than a mantel, so well why not use something else?

So, I like to use my wall of bookcases along a long wall in our family room for my seasonal displays, collections, and
ever-changing gallery wall.

Plus, we have a 3 month old giant (and by this I mean GIANT and really active) lab puppy tearing everything up right now,
and a sweet grandbaby who is loving his independence and is now walking. So, up high everything goes for now!

I knew I wanted to use a mainly red and white theme this year, as in year’s past I have had a very colorful tree with lots
of hot pink, aqua etc… So this year, it’s a little more rustic/cabin retreat than it has been in the past.

Hi friends!

I hope you had a restful (or productive, whichever is more enjoyable!) weekend, we have been busy around casa twelveOeight.
If you have been following me for a while, some of these may look familiar, this is my Christmas decor last year, I
thought it would be fun to go back and look at some of the changes a year later as I put the finishing touches on my
Christmas decorating for 2014 this weekend.

More on that this week!

Today I’m having fun seeing some of my favorite Christmas elements, and can’t wait to show you a few new ones too. [Read more…]

Upcycled Embroidery Hoop Wreath + Merry Printable Banner

Upcycled Embroidery Hoop Wreath twelveOeightdiy #diywreath #upcycle #sweaterwreath #embroideryhoop #twelveOeightblog

I would love to tell you that I have learned the art of embroidery.

I have not.

It’s on my stuff-I-really-want-to-learn-but-I-get-so-distracted list.

Upcycling a sweet thrift store find however is something we specialize in around my house.
And today I am sharing a sneak peek at my Christmas Home Tour coming soon.
This Embroidery Hoop Wreath is thrifty from top to bottom.

The “sweater” was actually a Land’s End blanket I picked up at Goodwill last spring, and
drug all over with me all summer long.  When the frayed edges could not stand another wash,
my white sweater blanket became part of a winter quilt (still in the works.) [Read more…]

How to Make a Glitter House Village {the easy way}

How to make glitter houses twelveOeightblog.com #glitterhouse #putz #dollarstore #Christmas #diy #twelveOeightblog

Does the thought of having a your own Glitter House Village sound wonderful?

It has to me too for a couple years now.

And I have thought about different ways I could construct cardboard glitter houses,
But schedules are busy this time of year, and it’s hard enough to sometimes
balance it all and have time to create and craft too.

Let alone build a teeny village while keeping little hands from grabbing one
and running around like crazy folk.

So the idea went on the back burner until I came across a pretty but kind of faded
Victorian style house at Goodwill.  It was $6.99, and I brought it home and left it
on the kitchen counter for a couple days. [Read more…]
