Chalk Painted Grain Sack Dresser

This little dresser has been more colors
than I can remember.
Do you have a piece of painted furniture like that?
It has been with you forever,
survived every move.
Seen every trend, color, and
if it could talk it may very well plead
with you to make this
the very last makeover.

I just want to save every piece
of furniture I can from a terrible fate of
orangey-oak stain.
Or even worse shhhhh…(a landfill)
Thanks for being quiet, I didn’t want
the furniture to hear us.

My little dresser is still a little upset
over all the sanding, she’ll get over it.

I keep thinking of a little farmhouse
with screen doors, pitchers of cool lemonade,
and chickens out back.
Wide plank wood floors, white curtains,
a barn off in the distance, and a wonderfully
rusty junkin’ rig just waiting for another
adventure parked out front.

It’s a stretch from the suburbs,
but a girl can dream.

This redo was a pretty easy one.  I used my homemade chalk paint recipe you can find here.
And covered the previous aqua paint with a couple coats of chalky, clean white paint.
I spray painted the knobs black, and distressed them when they were dry and set them aside.
Using masking tape (just the regular 1″ thick tape from the grocery store) I measured
and taped my stripes down the drawer fronts while they were in the dresser.
Using a paint pouncer and some black acrylic paint, I filled in the striped areas with
black paint.
After it was all dry, I put the knobs back on the drawer fronts and using my palm
sander, sanded the edges and surfaces down to reveal some of the aqua paint
underneath.
Once I was done sanding, I used a clean cloth to wipe the dresser free of dust and
stood back to admire my “new” dresser!
After hanging some pretty book page medallions on the knobs I am loving her
new look.

Thank you so much for giving this little dresser a
new lease on life with me today.
