Chevron Painted Kitchen Stool

Along with a few other pieces

that I have inherited lately, this
loan oak stool was among the lot.
She was ok like she was, but
I could see some fun potential
in her.  So out came the paint
and sandpaper.
I would probably not do a huge area
in a busy, bright print like this spring
green chevron.  But a sunny spot in my
kitchen longed for something sassy
and not too serious.  I debated between
yellow, aqua and green.  The green won,
and I love how it turned out.  I have two
more outdated kitchen stools in the garage
that will be next on my radar.
I used an heirloom white spray paint, and
covered the entire stool with two good coats.
I let the stool dry overnight, then using
masking tape and scissors, I taped out
my chevron design.  I started in the center
of the stool and worked my way out from there.
This made it a lot easier to follow the pattern
to the top and bottom of the seat.
I used three coats of spring green acrylic
craft paint and a sponge pouncer to apply
the green chevron stripes.  Once they were
completely dry, I removed the tape
and used a course sandpaper all over,
more heavily in some areas.
The areas of the stool that were already worn
and the original varnish was cracked,
distressed easily.
I used a light coat of matte polyurethane
sealer on the seat and voila!
My green chevron gal is in her
happy, sunny new spot.

  1. Tanya, your stool looks great. Reminds me that I had a bright yellow stool like this one when I first started teaching. Wish I still had it. I'd paint it. '-)

  2. I love this stool! The color of green is so yummy, but even more I love the chevron detail… and I'm actually not one that typically goes for the chevron, so many times I see it and it's so busy it just hurts my eyes… but this is the perfect application for it. I'm pinning this too! Little Bit

  3. Another great project Tanya! Your stool is quite sassy with those chevron stripes. I love the amount of distressing you did on it too… just right!

Thank you for sharing it at What We Accomplished Wednesdays! Have a great weekend!

    Hugs,
    Deborah

  4. Wow! I love how your stool came out. I have a few of those around here that could definitely use something fun like this.

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Looks awesome! I'm not usually a green person but I love that color! Perfect amount of distressing too! Thanks so much for coming out to the party at Clean and Scentsible. I'll be featuring this tomorrow. Enjoy your Sunday!

  6. Wonderful work! This is the type of information that are meant to be shared around
the internet. Disgrace on Google for not positioning this post higher!

Come on over and talk over with my website .
    Thanks =)

  7. What kind of saw do I need to do such a chair? I would do it for my daughter, but I don’t know which saw to choose. Found some reviews on saws for beginners from bestchainsawadviser.com. It seems inexpensive, but can you still advise something?
