Need some thrifty ideas for Mother’s Day, Birthday’s or gift giving? Or if you
are like me, are you getting your skin ready for shorts and flip flops too?
I take much better care of my skin in my 40’s than I did when I was younger,
and part of my routine is making sure my skin in well hydrated and moisturized.
But I am still a summer-loving girl at heart, and one of my favorite smells of
summer is the yummy smell of coconut mixed with hints of vanilla. It
just reminds me of days spent at the lake, sun-streaked hair in a pony tail,
and relaxing with a fruity drink.
See, you can smell it now too!
So that’s the inspiration behind my own hand and body scrub and
sharing the recipe all wrapped up in a floral-laden jar. Spring days getting
longer, sun, soft skin, and the sweet aroma of coconut.
Gather your ingredients and some pretty paper & string to package these
jars as you go. I had so much fun decorating the jars, I had to make a few
more batches to fill them all!
In a mixing bowl combine the following and store in an airtight container:
(I like to use an immersion hand mixer-so easy!)
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract
This makes one cup, and fills small 8 ounce mason jars perfectly.
I cut a piece of floral scrapbook paper to fit around the jar, and secured with
tape in the back. I used a strip of the herringbone pattern and secured it in the
back with tape as well. I wound some self adhesive ribbon around the edge of lid
and add a felt rose from the $1 bins at Michael’s to the top of the jar, with a dab of
hot glue to keep it in place.
to make and to share too. And keep some too, of course. A gal has to have
her skin properly exfoliated and looking good in order to go buy more
supplies…or put her feet up with a fruity drink after a long day of crafting!

I have a bit of an obsession with coconut oil! There are so many ways to use it. Recently I started using it as a makeup remover.
That is SUCH a great idea Jenna! I love it too, we follow a low carb/gluten free diet so coconut oil is something I use a lot in cooking and baking. Have a wonderful week!!

That’s such an easy scrub recipe and I’m sure it smells wonderful. Thanks for sharing it on Link’n blogs link up.
Thank you Erlene!! It is super easy and does smell really good, just like a cookie. I suppose if we ever run out of cookies this would be a 2nd option in a pinch 🙂 Have a great week

Love it! question: do you keep it in the fridge during the summer? (since coconut oil liquifies at 76°)
That is a great question Dani, we usually keep our house pretty cool when the warmer months arrive. I would think keeping it in the fridge would be a good idea in warmer climates. Good thinking!!
