DIY book page garland

Hello friends!

How is your week going? Mine is flying by and I am thrilled to be feeling better! I ended up very anemic this summer and we realized I am no longer absorbing iron via food or supplements. A problem for those of us with anemia. SO, after being treated in the ER we hoped it would get better.

It did not.

But, after an iron IV infusion a few weeks ago I could see improvement after a week. It is so wonderful to feel better when you have had a stretch with little energy and worrying about your health. I am so grateful ๐Ÿ™‚

And, while I was feeling crummy I had time to make a LONG list of things I want to make hence the flurry of posts after a relatively quiet summer.

With Halloween almost here, I am quickly focusing on Thanksgiving and then the minute it is over, well you know.

It’s Christmas everything!

I want to enjoy this thanksgiving as we all have so many things to be thankful for.

To slow down, read more, let the dishes go if I am into a project, and let the magic of fall and winter arrive not rushed but welcomed.

My first Thanksgiving project this year is a simple book page garland comprised of paper, wire, a few glittery acorns and some basics found at the dollar store.

I love garlands as they can go just about anywhere. A mantel, bookcase, table, over the top of a doorway…just about anywhere!

Over the years I find myself with multiple copies of the same paperback when I think I no longer have a copy, I buy another. Usually at the thrift store. So I did not feel bad cutting into my 3rd copy of the Time Traveler’s Wife lol.

I began by twisting 6 paper lunch sacks to create the base, hot gluing the ends together so they do not separate then wrapping the paper “base” with florist wire.

I found these burlap leaves at the dollar store as well. I was able to use them as a template for the book page leaves and to fluff up the base and give some contrast for the white leaves.

I used 15 burlap leaves, and 30 book page leaves. I gave the paper leaves a little crumple and then slightly loosed each and did a small fold in the center. I loved how it made them look like they had drifted to the ground off some amazing book tree somewhere.

I used a dab of hot glue to attach them all going the same direction down the garland until it was covered. Next I added the little sparkly acorn and a bit of floofy pinky white stuff ( I am certain that is what it was called at the store) here and there until she was fluffy, floofy and ready for our Thanksgiving table.

Our weather in the Pacific Northwest is still in the 70’s and 80’s each day (unheard of when we are halfway to November) but the cool weather and shorter days are coming.

I find myself slowing my pace and reading more, dusting off the slow cooker and planning our Thanksgiving feast as it will be here before we know it.

So now that I have the centerpiece done, its just the planning, shopping, cooking and celebrating left to do. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s really so much fun.

Plus, my family knows to savor the weeks to come since the days after Thanksgiving kick off the annual Christmas palooza that happens around here!

Thank you for reading friend, I hope this finds you cozy and enjoying the floofiest fall ever ๐Ÿ™‚

Hugs, Tanya

  1. So glad you’re feeling better Tanya, I don’t absorb vitamins well either, because of celiac disease and I take a weekly infusion for immunosuppression because I’m deficient in antibodies. I’ve been thru a long illness of neuro problems most likely because I’m not getting the B vitamins. You might want to have all your vitamin blood levels checked, next time you’re at your docs.
