DIY Mediterranean Earrings

Today’s DIY Mediterranean earrings were inspired by the beautiful colors of the ocean like azure, sapphire, sea green and teal.  While mentally planning my trip to the Mediterranean (someday!) I created these little lovlies to tide me over until my tootsies touch down in Sicily and Crete.

These have now become my latest go-to earrings that seem to go with just about everything.  Here is what you need if you would like to make a pair of Mediterranean-inspired earrings:
  •  Two pieces of “tiger tail” to string beads on, each about 10″ long
  • Assorted beads (I used a mix of glass beads, and small glass seed beads in blue/green shades)
  • Two earring hooks
  • Two crimp beads
  • Needle-nosed pliers and wire snips or scissors

The first step is to decide how long you would like for your earrings to be, and starting in the center, string beads on each side of your main bead like in the picture below.

After adding beads evenly to both sides, pinch the tiger tail together and string a larger bead on like in the picture below to close the loop.  I used a couple different size beads to do this before I strung on one crimp bead.
Once the crimp bead is in place, run the two wires back through the crimp bead and other beads you just strung on the top to create a loop.  Carefully pull the strings until you have a small loop above the crimp bead, and using your needle-nosed pliers, pinch it firmly to secure the beads in place.  Closely trim the loose wire where it is coming out of the earring, and use your pliers to open the base of your earring hooks and attach them to the earring via the top loop you just created.  Can you believe how easy that was?

I wore these with jeans and a t-shirt yesterday, and I think I will pair them with a tank and maxi skirt when I visit the farmer’s market with the little’s this week.  I hope you are inspired to keep your travels alive in your head and heart, and until you are there, you have a pair of earrings to inspire your day-tripping.

Wishing you a blessed week, happy crafting!
