DIY Modern gold planters

I don’t know about you but I am BEYOND ready for Summer! Warm days, yummy food and lots of fun outside. Fresh tomatoes, bare feet and some naps in the shade are just around the corner, I can’t wait!

Sometimes it takes forever or what seems like forever to find the materials you need for your next project.

Other times the ideas (and supplies!) seem to jump into your lap or in this case, your cart.

I ran to Dollar Tree with my daughter recently and it did not take long to see the potential before me in the gardening aisle. Between four planters and an armload of faux succulents I was off to try and create some modern patio planters that looked more splurge than save.

Life is funny that way, sometimes we can walk by the same thing over and over, read the same words, or repeat the same task yet given the right outlook on our part we see the elements in a whole new way. Like at the dollar store, with some plastic planters!

With summer coming soon and thoughts of long warm days and evenings enjoying dinner together outside, I thought a couple new planters would be the perfect first outdoor project.

Right when I saw these plaster planters I liked them and thought they would look cool if they were taller with one inverted on the lower half.

And painted of course lol. I do love me some spray paint.

It was not until I used high-temp hot glue to attach them and had them painted that I realized I wanted them to have some trim in the center. They looked good without it but it gave them that extra pop.

Here is what I used:

Four plastic planters, high temp hot glue, spray paint, enough dollar store cotton clothes line for trim, crumpled paper and moss to fill the planters, dollar store white decorative rocks.

And of course, a bunch of pretty faux succulents.

And more hot glue.

A layer of the decorative white rocks, and some of the cute little succulents, and they were starting to look super pretty!

They turned out so chic and fun and were so quick to make!

We had dinner outside on our patio tonight and it was so wonderful to enjoy eating outside again. Mind you the rain is returning in a couple days, not the point, today was FABULOUS!

You may already have beautiful weather where you are, or still waiting for it to warm up like I am.

Wherever this finds you today I wish you an amazing week, full of sunshine and good vibes, and a little time to create too 🙂 thank you as always for reading!

xo, Tanya

  2. Tanya!! I stumbled upon your blog just recently and I’ve been scrolling through and reading everything like a maniac haha. I love incorporating houseplants in my interior design too.
