DIY Mother’s Day Card | with Brooke from Blissful Roots

Happy May, twelveOeight readers!
It’s Brooke from Blissful Roots.  Isn’t May such a delightful month?
I love the perfect weather, the flowers, the anticipation of summer, and of course Mother’s Day.
I’ve always loved Mother’s Day, but it’s especially wonderful when you’re blessed to be a mother yourself!

Today I have an extra special card you can make for all the mothers in your life.
A card that can double as decor after you’ve given it.
I absolutely love tissue paper!  I love the variety of colors, the versatility of it, and how dainty
and delicate it is.  It’s the perfect medium to use for anything Mother’s Day.

This project will send you back to your elementary days.  Do you remember doing the tissue paper
and glue art projects when you were younger?  I sure do!  They were always my favorite.
Well, I hadn’t done it in years, and I guess I’m a bit more of a perfectionist these days because
the gluing tissue paper on the letter ‘M’s was a tad bit tedious!  Probably because my letters were
only 2″ tall.  I wanted them small enough to fit on a card, so I couldn’t make them very big.
So, the gluing took a bit of time, but isn’t your mother worth a bit (or tons) of extra time?
Mine is, for sure!!
Anyway, you’ll just cut small tissue paper squares in the color of your choice.  Mine is a salmon color.
Then cut out two letter ‘M’s.  I used my Cricut, but you could trace and cut out just as well.
Once you have that done, the gluing begins.  I remember using a pencil to wrap the tissue
paper around in elementary school, but my letters were so small that a pencil was too big.
I just scrunched the tissue paper in my fingers, dipped it in glue, and then attached it to the letters.
I did end up giving the letters a “haircut” after all the tissue paper was applied and dried.
That made the letters look a bit more groomed and defined.

I used a tissue paper flower for the letter ‘O’.  It was way quicker than gluing tissue paper to
one more letter, and I like the variety it adds.  I love these tissue paper flowers, and have made
It’s the one I’ve always used as a guide.  I love these flowers because (of course) they’re made
of tissue paper, they’re really simple, they’re very forgiving, and they’re the perfect touch
for just about anything crafty!

Once my letters and flower were complete, I glued them to my scrapbook paper, (my piece came from
Crate Paper’s Fourteen collection) and then attached the scrapbook paper to the bottom half of a white
piece of card stock.  Then I was able to fold the card stock in half, (I did have to trim off a bit of one end
to make it even) and have an instant handmade Mother’s Day card.  I’m in love with how this card
turned out, and I cannot wait to give this away this year!
Come and visit me at Blissful Roots sometime some.  I have a beautiful DIY Mother’s Day gift box
(handmade cards and gift boxes, she’ll feel so special!) and some Mother’s Day printables to share.
Happy early Mother’s Day to all you wonderful mothers out there.
Thank you for all your time, sacrifice, examples and love!
You make this world a much more pleasant place to be.
