DIY Painted Dish Towels

Even though it’s the week of Valentine’s Day, am I the only one who is beyond ready for Spring?
I saw 2-packs of white flour sack dish towels at Walmart recently for under $2 so I picked up a few thinking I would paint some for my kitchen.  I am so ready for flowers, and everything wonderful about Springtime.

So for now, pretty dish towels, and things that make us smile are what we can surround ourselves with while we wait for buds to bloom and the days to become longer.

And I was able to use able to use mostly supplies I already had on hand, stripes can be made with masking tape, and stencils can be as ornate or simple as you want.

Supplies I used:

  • Two white flour sack dish towels
  • Stencil, stamps, and tape in desired designs
  • Acrylic paint and fabric medium
  • Foam paint pouncers
  • Permanent fabric markers for polka dot design

I began by using some Shape Tape by Frog Tape to make a design on the first dish towel.  I had not tried this tape on fabric yet, it worked really well.   I used yellow for one chevron stripe, grey for another & the last stripe just made a dotted design with my permanent fabric marker.

For the rose pattern I used a large rose stamp with a bit of aqua paint brushed over the raised areas, and stamped it over the chevron stripes once they were dry.

The orange damask pattern was super easy, I started and one end of the towel in the center, then worked my way out to the edges from there.

I let them dry completely, and voila!

I have never tried stamping and painting dish towels before and it was really easy!
Thank you so much for creating with me today, wishing you a creative & blessed week-

      Hi Sheree!
I usually would use the damask design with a more neutral color, stepped out a bit on this one and I love it too 🙂 Have a wonderful day-

Right now it looks like BlogEngine is the best blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
