DIY Suede Tassel Necklace

Hello friends I hope this finds you enjoying your day & maybe even finding some
time to relax if you happen to have a long weekend!! It’s raining like crazy here, but
we are pros at having fun rain or shine.  Living in Washington seems to include a
strange love of rain.  We’re weird like that.

I wanted to share a project with you today that I had a lot of fun making and
now wearing too.  Jewelry can get a little spendy to buy, and even make sometimes too.
Any of us who have purchased beads can attest to the cost of making your own jewelry.

I really like this necklace for a couple reasons, one, it was easy and two, it didn’t
require any expensive beads or hard to find components to make.  Ok, one more
reason, it’s pretty and it goes with EVERYTHING!!

Here is what I used to make this DIY Suede Tassel Necklace:

  • About 3 yards of suede cord, I chose a kind of warm tan color
  • One large bead or charm to use as the focal point
  • One large jump ring
  • One long metal pin to go thru the main bead (make a loop with pliers on each end so it connects)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Iron
  • Hot glue

I began by measuring how long I wanted my necklace to be, and gave myself a few
extra inches to account for the knot at the top of the necklace.  Next I trimmed
the remaining suede cord in 7″ sections, and used my iron to smooth each section
out as they had been on a roll prior to this.  I folded them in half and ran a short
piece of suede cord thru the top to create the tassel loop.

Next, I trimmed the short piece down and glued the ends to connect them and close
the loop.

I went ahead and attached my bead to my necklace cord, and inserted the large jump ring at the bottom
of the bead, and also to the suede loop I just made.  Next I used a piece of cord about 5″ long, glued it on
one side, and wrapped it snugly around the top of the tassel like in the picture above.

Secure the end with a dab of glue, and trim the tassel ends to they are as long and even as you would like
them to be.  All done!

So what do you think? Are visions of DIY jewelry on the horizon for you? I hope so!!
