DIY Yarn Wrapped Christmas Trees |Make it with Michael’s challenge

how to make yarn wrapped trees

I’m that gal that looks at yarn.

I love the textures, colors and cannot believe how many different types of yarn there are!

But I don’t knit or crochet (at least not yet) but I can work a hot glue gun like nobody’s business.
And these little DIY Yarn Wrapped Christmas Trees were exactly what this girl needed to start
the Holiday crafting season off with a bang.

I was so excited to have the amazing, crazy-creative team from Michael’s ask me if I would like to
be part of this challenge.  I will be sharing more of the in-store Pinterest Party Craft Day photos
from in the actual store (mark your calendars, you can craft with some of your fave bloggers at
your local Michael’s store) on Saturday November 15th from 1:00-4:00pm.

Cool huh?

So this is the project I chose, in the picture below you can see the challenge photo from one of
the talented Michael’s crafters on the left, and mine, in my favorite Deck-the-halls colors red and white on the right!

Here is how I made my DIY Yarn Wrapped Christmas Trees (in less than an hour too!)

Supplies:

  • Three Styrofoam cones
  • One small glass candle holder
  • One skein of yarn in your choice of (colors)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Three berry picks to glue onto the tree (cut off the stems)
  • Artificial snow (I love this addition because it made me sing my favorite Bing Crosby songs all day)

Directions:

Begin at the base of each cone by gluing the end of the yarn to the back bottom, and beginning to wind it snugly
around the “tree” until you reach the top.  Once you do, give yourself about 4″ of extra yarn, wind it into a little cone-
like shape and press it down with a dot of hot glue to attach the loose end to the top of the cone.

Next, use the small glass candle holder under one of your smaller cones to make it taller than the other, just hot glue
the top of the candle holder onto the bottom center of the cone.  Next you get down with your bad self and hot glue your
heart out decorating your Christmas trees with your favorite color of berries.  I went with green and white, you could
take these bright or go super natural too.  Either looks fabulous!

Put them someplace where everyone can see them, and sprinkle that fake snow like there is no tomorrow.
One can never apply enough fake snow.

You my friend just make a trio of super cute DIY Yarn Wrapped Christmas Trees that would make a sweet gift for
someone you love, or to keep for your Christmas decorating & festivities!
