Dollar Store Chalkboard Sign in a January House

I am always excited & challenged by what I like to call my January House.
My routine has returned (ok at least a little.)
The Holiday’s are behind us, and a fresh New Year with all it’s hope and
possibility is here.
And I am usually ready for some change.
Do you do the same thing?
Like finishing something then deciding to make a few changes, and add that
other thing, so you realize you are never really done.
Or finished.
But just starting.
I think of my house and I like a comfortable friendship.
Chandler & Joey.
Laverne & Shirley.
Wayne & Garth.
Lucy & Ethel.
If we were to have a conversation (other than a one-sided convo I am very
thankful has never been overheard at least to date) it might sounds like this.
Me: “so……what should we work on first?”
House: “you pick, surprise me”
Me: “well, it’s still Winter”
House: “yeah, it’s still Winter”
Me: “and you were pretty patient about all of the ornaments and merry-making
last month”
House: “yes I was, you kind of owe me, a dog peed on my carpet”
Me: “Ugh, I forgot about that, sorry”
House: “It’s ok, I’m over it”
Me: “K, hey do you want to go to the dollar store?”
House: “uh hello? Yes, but you’re driving”
So it’s settled.
A girl’s gotta watch her budget, there’s a whole year of decorating and wall-
painting coming.  I gotta pace myself.
And not freak the dog out again.
Ugh.
A pretty new welcome sign was exactly what we needed.
Here is what I used:
http://twelveoeight.blogspot.com/
I love this product by Plaid Enterprises, it’s called Chalk Anything, and that’s what it
does.  Turning any surface into a chalkboard.  SO COOL.
http://twelveoeight.blogspot.com/
I began by using two coats of charcoal acrylic paint on the pizza pan and allowed
them to dry well.  Next I applied the Chalk Anything according to the directions,
and let it cure overnight.  I don’t know that you have to do this, but I really
wanted my little pizza pan to be pretty.  So I thought it couldn’t hurt.
To prime a new chalkboard you want to use the side of a piece of chalk and rub
it over the entire surface, then wipe with a dry cloth.  Otherwise when you write
on your chalkboard it may scratch and show through.
Next I used my awl tool and made two holes in the top of the pan and ran
a piece of jute twine through them, tying it to make a hanger.
I cut out some scrapbook paper triangles and glued them onto the top of
the pan to create a little bunting, and wrote my greeting with chalk.
Voila!
Pizza pan to cute hanging chalkboard.
On a thrifty budget and took less than 30 minutes, excluding dry time.

Too cute Tanya! I may have to use this as one of the crafts for the Pinterest Party I'm planning soon. 🙂 And I love the way you "talk" to your house. Ha ha! Sounds an awful lot like the way I talk to mine.

How clever is that! I love it. Whiling away the hours at the dollar store is so fun, but I never thought of that project.

Thanks for linking up at Twirl and Take a Bow! Hope to see another one of your great ideas next Tuesday!

Love this Tanya! Such a cute idea- I used some pizza pans are magnet boards for my sons’ bedroom, but I really love the look of yours with chalkboard paint. Just might ‘borrow’ that idea! Happy weekend:)
