Hi there!  I’m Brooke from Blissful Roots.  I’m thrilled that Tanya has been kind enough to let me take a bit of her space here at twelveOeight today.  I absolutely love stopping by here for Tanya’s latest creations, and is she not the sweetest person you’ve ever met?  I always love seeing her smiling face around blogland.

Today, I’m so excited to share a super easy, super inexpensive (8 ornaments for $1!) Halloween project with you.

I stumbled upon these Dollar Tree cookies last winter (click here to see the Christmas ornaments I made with them) when my boys insisted on buying a package of them.  I thought for sure they’d be a waste of a dollar, but they proved me wrong.   Actually, I’m not sure how much my boys enjoyed eating the cookies, but I found the perfect little ornaments when they opened the package.  My mind works in strange ways sometimes.  I wonder how many other people out there see a box of dollar store cookies and think, “those would make the perfect ornaments!”.  Well, on second thought I’ve been around blogland long enough to know that there are many of you out there who have the same mind set as me, creativity on a dime.
Here’s what I did.

SUPPLIES
1 box of Nostalgia Assorted Cookies (found at Dollar Tree)
Black spray paint
Black glitter
Black string, yarn, ribbon
Halloween labels, stickers, embellishments
Hot glue

Round Cookies from Nostalgia Assorted Cookies
HOW TO
Spray paint all the backs of the round cookies (I only used the round cookies from the package, but there are others if you want to try them), and allow to dry.  Then, turn the cookies over and spray paint the front of one cookie at a time, then immediately sprinkle with glitter.  You could use a black glitter spray paint instead (I love Krylon’s glitter blast), but I already had spray paint and glitter on hand, so that’s what I used.  Repeat spraying and glittering until all ornaments are done.

Allow ornaments to dry completely, then add labels, ribbons, stickers, buttons, any kind of embellishment you’d like.  You could even just leave them as is.  I made some labels in PicMonkey (see link below to print your copy) for my ornaments, then printed them out on old book pages.  The original size of the labels was a bit too big for my taste, so I printed a set of labels at 90% original size, and a set at 80% original size.  I used the 90% size for the larger round cookie ornament, and the 80% for the smaller round cookie ornament.

Once you’ve attached your embellishments (I hot glued my labels by the way), then hot glue your string to the back of your completed ornament, and you’re ready to adorn your Halloween tree, or anywhere else you’d like.

Aren’t they fun?  I LOVE how they turned out, and I LOVE, LOVE the fact that they really only cost me $1 (I did have the paint and glitter already, and I printed my labels at home).

Small Cookie Ornaments (labels printed at 80%)

Large Cookie Ornaments (labels printed at 90%)

I don’t know if these ornaments will last longer than this year.  I know there are products out there to preserve things like this, but if they last for just this year that’s fine with me.  I can always make more next year.

If you’d like to print the Halloween labels I made for my ornaments, you can click here.  I made two sets of labels.  The black and white set are made for printing on book pages, and the cream and black labels are made for printing on white card stock, incase you don’t have old book pages to print on.

Thanks so much for letting me take a bit of your time today, and thanks again, Tanya!  Come and visit me at Blissful Roots anytime.  Have a wonderful weekend!
