Easy Chalkboard Memo Board & Bunting

I had so much fun making Chalkboard Labels recently, that I had to share with you this carved board I picked up thrifting and turned it into, what else, a chalkboard.  But this time I included one of my favorite and fast ways to make a cute paper bunting to go along with my new memo board.  Let’s get started!

What you need:
  • Krylon Chalkboard Paint, love the stuff, one can goes a long way and it’s like $6
  • The surface you want to turn into a chalkboard, an old piece of wood can work great, and you can also usually have some cut from inexpensive pine boards at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot.
  • Two screw-eyes also available at Lowe’s or Home Depot, and most craft supply stores.
  • Sisal rope or jute twine
  • Various scrap booking papers, stickers, bling etc…
  • Glue stick and hot glue gun
To appreciate a true trash to treasure we all love to take pictures so we have the hideous before and magnificent after right? Unless it is a craft fail, those end up in a pile in the garage that no one is allowed to look at, and all photos are deleted.  But that doesn’t happen very often to any of us, so why spend too much time on that.  I FORGOT, yes, forgot to do my before pic, so here is what the back of the board looked like after I painted it above.

I used three coats of Krylon Chalkboard paint, allowing each coat to dry well, then slightly distressed the edges of my wood.

I inserted a screw-eye into both top corners of the sign and ran some sisal through the holes, tying it on both sides to make a hanger for the sign.  After that I began to decorate my chalkboard by adding an oval metal scrap booking accent tag, and lettered stickers to spell out “notes” and a flower of course.

Then I got started on my paper bunting.  These are so much fun to make, they are fast and add a cute accent to a doorway, above a picture, and of course a DIY chalkboard.  I used a large can to trace out about seven circles, cut them out and folded them in half.

Using contrasting papers I made flowers and square flags to go in between each semi-circle, all strung on a piece of jute twine about two feet long.  In between I added small pieces of burlap that I tied in a double knot and hot-glued in place.

So I told you that was pretty fast! I was able to put this together while hobbling around on a broken foot (yes please leave a comment telling me I should rest so I can show the kids, and they will dote on me for days on end 😉 and three Little’s running around like there is no tomorrow.  If I can do it, I know you can too.  I am using mine in my home office to remind myself of supplies I need when I run out.  Also positive affirmations like “You can do it, you are fabulous.  Now go take a shower”

Thank you so much for crafting with me today, and remember, you are fabulous and I adore you, shower or not.  Hugs!

xoxo, Tanya
