Easy DIY boho necklace + tending to our gifts

diy jewelry, gifts you can make, necklace

 I love jewelry.

And other than my wedding ring my jewelry is usually from Charlotte Russe or Forever 21.

There is something about buying a bunch of new bracelets and accessories to breathe some new life into your wardrobe.

I have been in a huge style rut for a while now.

A bad one.

It’s not that I don’t care, because I do, and I love the way I feel when I like my outfit and feel confident.

I think it’s just my head space, and being tired from work, and letting other things get in the way.

I want to be purposeful and keep creativity a priority in life even when life gets crazy.

Because to be honest, my faith in God and art are what keeps me going when I feel like I have exhausted every ounce of energy.

So maybe a DIY necklace and our spiritual life don’t have a lot to do with each other, but I keep thinking that they really do.

When I am close to God and when I am growing in my faith and claiming the peace and victory on He can give me, I feel peaceful.

And cultivating our talents and gifts also bring us to a peaceful place too.

So maybe what I needed at the end of the day was not a wardrobe or style update, but making creativity a priority because it’s cultivating something I love so much.

And it makes me giddy, and excited to have an idea.

To sketch it out and start to create and pull the pieces together.  It might be planned or a happy accident.

Much of how our lives are don’t you think?

I may be reading way to much into how making a necklace made me feel.

Sharing highs and lows with you, and seeing a new comment in my inbox makes me so happy.  You have no idea how much those comments mean.  SO MUCH.

I start to remember how blessed I am, and how we all carry each other sometimes.

And it’s ok to go thru a rut, it might just be pointing me and you in the direction we are to go.

To take us off the track of “being busy” and take time to think about what we love.

And for me, it’s hot glue, and furniture that needs to be refinished.

And a picture frame that needs a new coat of paint.

And pretty paper.

And getting lost upstairs in my corner of our playroom, surrounded by glitter and mess…and not caring what time it is or what needs tending to.

Our gifts need tending to sometimes more than anything else.

So, I bring you a ten minute craft, that is thrifty, and can give those jeans and t shirt a boost that you didn’t know you needed.

For five bucks.

Pearl Trim Edge veil

Right?!

Let’s do this thing….

Supplies:

  • About a yard to a yard and a quarter of suede cord
  • Beads of your choice, I like to find the main piece then a couple of accent beads to bring in texture
  • Jewelry straight pins that have one flat end like a sewing pin
  • Needle nosed pliers
  • Music you like, not required by highly suggested 😉

Directions:

  • Measure how long you want your necklace to be, accounting for the knot
  • String beads onto the pins to connect (my center bead already had wire and hooks so I just needed to open one side and connect the large piece to it and close it with my needle nose pliers
  • Use your jewelry pins as needed to connect remaining pieces and leaving yourself about 1/4 inch at the top to curl over to create a loop
  • Run you cord thru the top loop and tie at the top
  • Most importantly, wear it and be fabulous!
