I love all of the super cute accessories and clothes for summer this year. Bright tanks and maxi skirts, fun bags and sandals can be mixed together for a casual, yet pretty summer wardrobe. But, I have also seen some of the price tags on summer jewelry and being a cheap-skate-DIY’er-I-think-I-can-make-one-even-cooler kind of mom, I dug in my bead box and this is what I came up with.
The Super-Easy Summer Necklace
I picked up the white chunky beaded necklace while thrifting a couple months ago for under a dollar. Beads and jewelry components can be quite spendy, when I see a good solid piece I can add to, upcycle or cut into pieces for the parts, I pick it up knowing I will put it to good use later.
Isn’t this pretty? It would have been awesome by itself but I already have a similar white necklace, so off the the upcycle bin she went.
I already had the following jewelry components on hand, I love free! Yay!!!!
-White chain, about 100 inches long
-Bright center piece for the focal point ( I had a large, green, filigree piece I couldn’t figure out what to do with from a previous 40% off day at JoAnn’s)
-Two larger clear beads, and two smaller green beads (I use a mix of glass and high-quality plastic)
-Some beading pins about 1 1/2″ long with the loop on the end and a few jump rings
Ready? This is easy and will look amazing on you!
I doubled my loop of chain and set it aside
To one end of the chain I connected the beading pin that I strung the large clear and small green beads to. The other end of the beading pin is now connected to one side of the filigree piece. I used my needle-nosed pliers to open the end and close it around a thin area on the filigree. On the other end, I used the pliers to bend the wire and form a loop around the bottom of the chain and now connect both sections together.
Now I repeat the first step with the large clear bead and small green bead on the other side of the filigree and connect to the white thrifted necklace that I folded in half, see below.
Told you this was easy!
We are almost done, on the other end of the white chain that needs to connect to the white chunky beaded necklace, I added a jump ring to the end. The a few inches up another jump ring slid onto the chain, like in the picture below.
I hung the chunky white necklace a litte uneven and chose a section (see below) to loop the white chain between a couple of the chunky beads and connect the two jump rings.
Don’t you love how quick this pretty necklace was to make? I am so glad we were able to get crafty together today, thank you for creating and saving money with me, it was fun!
I wish you a wonderful, blessed day,
xoxo, Tanya
