Easy white Christmas wreath + burning the banana bread

Do you ever feel like you don’t accomplish enough?

Like simplicity or relaxing and letting some stuff just go is something you’re just not good at?

I have not a confession or a secret to tell you, but a statement.

It’s a statement because anyone who knows me knows I forget things sometimes.

Or I glue my fingers together.

Right after I burned banana bread.

Or I left laundry in the washer so long the “funk” would not come out so we had to throw those clothes away.

Sometimes just finding 5 minutes for yourself is a tall order isn’t it?

And to feel like we dropped the ball and didn’t make our kids costumes, or have done drive thru 6 out of 7 nights this week means we don’t have it together.

But you know what, we do.

When I wake up in the morning, I look in the mirror at my messy bun, old t-shirt and yoga pants.

And I look down at my sparkly pink toes, and little voices asking mama for some waffles.

While I don’t have it all together, I have everything.

Everything that is important.

And no one ever died from Eggo waffles instead of homemade.

Or watching too much television one week.

Or knowing the folks at Taco Bell on a first name basis.

So I make this statement, and admit that while I would love to have it all together, and get it all done every day.

I don’t.

And I am kind of growing to be ok with that.

Like me and perfection are making peace realizing we will never fit together.

And life is about messes, and hot glue, and bread that burns sometimes.

Truth be told I’d rather snuggle with my tribe than make sure they know how to make their beds.

When we do that, we seem to have time for so much more.

So much that they remember as being important.

They never asked me if I would clean the house with them again.

But they do ask if I will get out the glitter, and glue,  and make a big mess while dancing to Bing Crosby.

And this week, that is exactly what we did.

Here is how we let the banana bread burn, skipped the dishes, and made this Easy White Christmas Wreath.

I found the white grapevine wreath at my local Craft Warehouse. It had a soft white wash on the grapevines, and a healthy dose of glitter.

I already had this burlap and lace ribbon on hand from Jo-Anns, and I used a simple knot at the top to create the hanger.

I chose one larger and two small white mini Christmas trees, gluing the bases to the wreath, then using a bit more hot glue, I added some “snow” aka pillow batting around the bottom of each tree.

Next I used some glitter covered styrofoam balls, gluing them down here and there, I kept thinking it looked like a good snow ball fight may have taken place here, and this is what was left over.

With one glittery snowball stuck on a tree top for good measure.

And that is how I made a very simple, 15 minute wreath this year, with Bing singing in the background and a little glitter on the floor.

Until next time, may your heart and home be full of everything you love,

  1. Sounds to me like you have your priorities right Tanya. Enjoy those precious moments with your little ones and don’t worry about burnt banana bread… plenty of time for that when they are grown up.
This is such a sweet little DIY and I’m delighted to be featuring it at tonight’s Create, Bake, Grow & Gather party.
    Merry Christmas!

  2. Tanya,
My kids are young men now but my favorite saying as they were kids was, “Ice cream doesn’t wait for children.” How does this pertain to your post? My heart and time belonged to my kids because kids will grow but dishes and housework will still be here when they have flown the best. I am here now I can confirm. The house work is still here and the memories we made are priceless. I love your wreath and your burnt banana bread because you know what is truly important.
From the other side you won’t reget the memories.
