Fall Family Photos 2014 + feeling thankful

Do you make resolutions at the end of each year for the coming New Year?
Some years I do, others it passes and I realize I haven’t thought about it at all.
Each year however, the thing that I desire most is a feeling of balance.

So I set out to create systems and ways to feel more balanced, and organized.

But it didn’t really help change how I felt inside.

At the end of each day, week, I felt like I had not accomplished what I had set out to, which created
frustration and discontentment.  I began to see that what I was truly craving was peace.
Peace for me came in the form of my faith in God, accepting today as it is, and living one day at a time.

Wow.

Sounds like I have got the unbalanced thing beat, I don’t.  Not at all.

But by keeping things in perspective, taking better care of myself, and relying upon a wonderful,
beautiful group of friends sisters I am not alone in this whole Mom-who-feels-tired-and-just-wants-to-sleep thing.
I don’t have to be perfect, and that is so freeing.

As I write this I haven’t had a drink in 24 days, and I feel so good.

More about that journey soon.

I’m thankful for my life, and my family, and for forgiveness, and redemption.

I’m thankful for my health, it’s not perfect, but I’ll take it!

And I am thankful for the gift of today, today we can do anything we put our minds and hearts into.

And with a whole bunch of help from above, it’s pretty exciting to see our lives and our hearts be

healed and transformed.

I am thankful for my gifts, the breath that God has given me today, and for peace.

It’s been a hard year in some ways, but also a really wonderful year.

Why do those two always seem to go together somehow?

Still working on getting my I-had-three-kids-right-before-I-turned-40 body back.  Slowly but surely.

I want to continue to create and bring as much DIY fabulousness as possible here at twelveOeight this next year.
And I really want to hear what you want to see more of too, pretty please with gluesticks on top let me know what you
would love to see more of (I am willing to beg, or share a really kick-butt cupcake recipe with you.)

stories too.

Happy Thanksgiving a week early 🙂

  1. Tanya, what an awesome post. I’m so proud of you for TRYING to learn to let God handle your problems. That is truly so hard. We think we have to fix ourselves, and we so don’t. That is God’s job. I’m much older than you, but I still feel lost and alone many times. I’ve never been much of a drinker, but once years ago I used to keep a 4-pack of wine coolers in the fridge and I’d come home from work and soak in the tub to relax. I heard myself think, “I need to drink one of these coolers to relax”, and it hit me, I said NEED. I never got drunk, I never had more than one, but I never had another. I was on a slippery road. Trust in God to take care of you, even if you feel alone. You really aren’t. He is with you every second of your every day. We are the ones who pull away from God when we don’t feel close to Him and are not at peace. God bless you and your lovely family. I know you are and will be in many people’s prayers.

    1. Anne,

You have no idea how reading your message blessed me this morning, thank you so much for sharing your heart. Thank you for joining me in taking a risk and being transparent. It’s so freeing and the return is great. God bless you – xoxo

  2. Tanya, Happy Thanksgiving (a week early) to you and your family. I am a Canadian blogger (new to the scene) and discovered your blog early on. I enjoy my regular updates that I receive from you and am also thankful for so much in my life (also has been a tough year here) and am also thankful and happy to read your posts.
I have you listed in my favorite blog(s) section on my own blog, I hope that’s ok.
    God bless!

    1. It sure is! Thank you so much Wanda 🙂 I really appreciate your reading from the beginning, I am glad to hear you too have so much to be thankful for. God is good isn’t He? Take care friend- xoxo
