Happy Saturday beautiful people!
Guess what? It’s raining in the Northwest (shocking I know) so I cleaned up my studio
area (which is half playroom/Lego Mecca and half my space) and I am going to try and
create my little heart out this weekend.
Since I have been blogging I have written I think one post on how to keep plants alive.
So what this means is, if you are going to go on a vacation, you might want to find another
home for them if you expect them to be watered.
It’s not intentional, it’s just one more thing to remember, and well a dog barks when it’s
hungry, plants need to up their game and come up with something besides a slow wilt.
I just need more of an attention grabber.
Enter the world of faux, and it’s become pretty chic too if Pottery Barn has a Faux Succulent
Wreath for $99 then why can’t we make one too?
Let’s look at the positives around a faux plant:
- I never need to re-pot it in a larger container.
- If ignored for long periods of time nothing bad happens.
- It looks alive no matter what (like perfect makeup 24/7 no touch-ups)
- No one comes over and points out that my plant is about to die (yes, this happens)
So there you have it, four compelling reasons why you and I need faux succulents in our
lives. And, this little number is comprised from $1 Dollar Tree Succulents to boot.
I know, I about peed my pants too when I realized that Dollar Tree now has succulents.
Here is what I used to make my Faux Succulent Wreath…
Supplies:
- One half of a 14″ embroidery hoop (about $5 at Jo-Ann’s)
- Hot glue
- Scissors
- Palm/Tropical type fronds (Dollar Tree)
- Assorted succulents, also from Dollar Tree (I used 7)
- A pretty flower to accent your wreath if desired (I bought mine at Dollar Tree, there are 4 leftover to be randomly hot glue to things now yay!)
- Moss & green raffia to accent
- Piece of jute twine for hanger, about 8″ long
Directions:
I began by removing the succulents from the pots that they came in, and trimmed some of the long
stems down with scissors. I began by attaching two large tropical leaves at the base of the wreath a
bit off to the right. Next I played around with the placement of each succulent until I liked the balance
and hot glued them in place on the underside. I added some moss and a little raffia here and there to
give the wreath some texture and a variety of greens. I chose a spot to glue the pretty pink and white
flower, and tied the jute twine at the top of the wreath in a loop pulled thru to create a hanger.
This has to be the easiest wreath, and I am so excited to hang it up.
Do I know where yet? No, but the front door could use something cool, and so could the door that
leads to my pantry.
So many decisions.
And that’s it, super easy, very affordable and we might just give the big boys in the home decorating
world a run for their money if we keep this up.
So have you found any treasures at your local dollar store that you weren’t sure how you could use?
I bet you there is a tutorial out there for just about every cool thing that can be upcycled or repurposed
under the sun.
I hope this finds you having a blessed, relaxing, spending-the-day-the-way-you-want-to kind of day,
until next time friends, love you SO!

I’m from the PNW too and I’m seriously getting a bit tired of this constant rain! Can’t wait for spring to get here 🙂 And I just ADORE this wreath. I love it because a.) it’s simple and gorgeous and b.) because it’s not real, I have no chance of killing the succulents 🙂 Win-win in my book!
Hi Erica! You are so right about not killing them, I did a whole blog post on how to keep a plant alive last year. I am sure that it was old news for some, but I was quite proud of myself and new talent lol. Thanks so much for visiting, xoxo
