I’m not quite sure what it is, but there’s something with me and my guest posts here at twelveOeight that brings out the food and glitter crafter in me. You might remember when I was here back in September that I shared my glittery dollar store cookie Halloween ornaments, and I even glittered a chocolate bunny over at Blissful Roots last Easter. Well, today the turning-food-into-decor-by-glittering-it-up frenzy continues.
I love strolling through the baking isle at the grocery store when any holiday rolls around. There are always so many festive items to draw inspiration from. Have you noticed how marshmallows can be found in just about every shape, size, color, and flavor these days? I’m completely giddy every time I see them, but I have one problem. I don’t like marshmallows. I do love roasting them over a campfire, but that’s my limit. I can’t just pop one in my mouth and chew. I think it’s a texture issue. Anyway, not wanting to eat the marshmallows certainly didn’t keep me from buying them. They were too cute to leave the store without them.
You could really use the marshmallows as they come. I do love their soft pink and white colors, the heart shape is adorable, and they’re three dimensional. But, I have a hard time not throwing a bit of glitter on just about anything, and so I did. I got my spray adhesive, glitter, and marshmallows, and went to town. It was SO MUCH FUN! I had several types of glitter on hand, and I tried them all. So many possibilities! But I have to say my very favorites (which totally surprised me) were the gold glittery hearts. I even used the cheap, big, chunky glitter you find in the kid’s craft isle, and I LOVE it! I’ve never been a huge gold girl, but it is everywhere these days, and it’s really starting to grow on me.
SUPPLIES
*Toothpicks
*Paper (to catch excess glitter)
HOW TO*Stick a marshmallow on a toothpick.
*Spray the marshmallow with adhesive.
*Sprinkle glitter over the sprayed marshmallow.
*Stand the marshmallow up to dry (Styrofoam works well).
The possibilities of color combinations, glitters and uses for these hearts are really endless! You could keep the toothpick in the hearts after they’ve dried and use them for toppers, or pull the toothpick out and use the hearts for anything! They could be ornaments on a valentine tree, strung together to make a garland, piled in a glass container for decor, or glued to paper or wood for wall art. And those are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I’m sure you could come up with many, many more!
I love her glitter! It’s so fine, and comes in amazing colors!
I’ve used this Water Lily glitter for countless projects. It’s stunning!
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this glitter, or not. But once I tried it, I fell completely in love with it!
I love the different look it has. Not just your typical round glitter.
The tiny tinsel pieces add such an amazing texture!
I wasn’t sure if I’d use it or not, but now it’s now become a favorite!
I love the sequins look it has, and all the glitz it gives off.
I have both the Campfire CupidMallows and Kraft Jet-Puffed HeartMalllows listed in the supplies above. I did use both, but I have to say the Campfire CupidMallows were my favorite because they were bigger, and came in pink and white. All of the hearts in my pictures (minus the cute red on on the toothpick in the first picture) are the Campfire ones. I was at my Walmart just yesterday, and saw many bags of them still there, so go grab yourself a bag or two, or twenty. They’re under $2, and it’s amazing what you can transform them into!
The pink glitter obviously worked the best on the pink marshmallows, and the white marshmallows worked best for the white and gold glitter. You could always spray paint the marshmallow first, then use any coordinating color of glitter. Have fun experimenting with colors and glitter types.
Thank you, Tanya for letting me be here today.
And Happy (early) Valentine’s Day to you all! I hope you enjoy a wonderful day with lots of love!
I’ll see you back here in March. We’ll see what other food I can find to glitter up.
Okay, I’ll try to take a break for a bit, but I can’t promise this won’t be the last!
