Glittered letters + flower garlands

It’s been a little quiet this week around twelveOeight.  I promise I didn’t take a tropical vacay, and forget to
snap 1,000 pictures to share.  I’ve been working around the house, purging & cleaning, pricing, did I mention
purging? Ugh, the hoard is insane.  I am glad I like to pick up a good deal when hitting the thrift stores, or
scouring local yard sales, but we have had a supply and demand problem for a couple years now.
Yep, more supply than the demand can handle.
So, a huge purge sale we will have.

I won’t be alone in my sickness however, I’ve joined forces with a few girlfriends, and we plan on filling my
driveway to the brim with all kinds of awesome crap.  A week from tomorrow we will throw on our flip flops,
fill up our coffee mugs, and spend two days wheeling & dealing to make a few bucks and clear out our homes.

I still have found some time to keep working on Abbie’s bedroom makeover.  Since we have played musical
bedrooms the past few years. most recently turning a large bedroom upstairs into a playroom, everyone has
settled into the rooms where they will stay.  At least for now.  This is our right now home, and while we love
the location and home, it’s on a busy road and we long for a semi-country locale someday.  Abbie’s room is
the first to receive a makeover, mostly because it looks like we just moved in…but that was 5 years ago.
See, even DIY’ers let some spaces kind of go sometimes.  The paint is about to go up, I am working on the
bedding, and making some pretty things to hang on the walls that reflect Abbie’s personality.

Since two of her most used words are hooray and yay, I knew I had to use one of them in her room design.
I want this to be her space she loves to chill in, wake up in, and daydream in.  This project is super easy,
hardly even a post, but I had to show you how pretty they turned out.

Here is what I used to make these polka dot yay glitter letters & floral garland:

  • paper mache letters
  • gold spray paint
  • round sponge paint pouncers
  • glitter
  • assortment of silk flowers (all found while cleaning out my craft bins)
  • floral-stem like garland to glue flowers to
  • hot glue

The floral garlands were as easy as they look.  About every 8 inches on 3 six foot sections of green
floral cord stuff, I hot glued a flower.  The mix of different colors and sizes of flowers look so pretty
when you put them all together.  Wouldn’t these be perfect for DIY wedding decor too?

Next I used two coats of gold spray paint on the letters, and when it was dry, used the small and large
paint pouncers to add circles of Mod Podge to each letter.  I coated each polka dot well, allowed it to
set, then shook off the excess glitter.  By not waiting until the glue was dry this allowed me to correct any
areas missed and even out the edges of a couple polka dots that were wonky.

Easy huh? And a particular someone is quite excited about painting her room this weekend.  In between
Diet Coke refills and pricing stacks of stuff, I have to admit I’m super excited about completing her room
too.  Maybe she’ll let Mom hang out in there too.  I hope so!!

  1. Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Taking
a few minutes and actual effort to produce a good article…
but what can I say… I hesitate a lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
