How to Make a Glitter House Village {the easy way}

Does the thought of having a your own Glitter House Village sound wonderful?

It has to me too for a couple years now.

And I have thought about different ways I could construct cardboard glitter houses,
But schedules are busy this time of year, and it’s hard enough to sometimes
balance it all and have time to create and craft too.

Let alone build a teeny village while keeping little hands from grabbing one
and running around like crazy folk.

So the idea went on the back burner until I came across a pretty but kind of faded
Victorian style house at Goodwill.  It was $6.99, and I brought it home and left it
on the kitchen counter for a couple days.

Do you do that sometimes?
I have to walk by something or look at it numerous times before inspiration strikes
for some projects.  I am sure this has a connection to the thrift-hoard in the garage.

Either way, because I am loving everything red, white, black and natural this year
for Christmas and winter, a snowy white candlelit village came to mind.

Here is what I did to create my Glitter House Village:

Supplies:

• Christmas village houses, chapels, etc… from your local thrift store and dollar store (my small houses are from Dollar Tree)
• White spray paint, satin or flat.  I used satin and liked the way it turned out.
• Mod Podge
• Paintbrush
• Newspaper or waxed paper to protect your work surface
• Glitter of your choice, I went with white glitter that looks like snow (it’s so pretty!!)
• Moss green pipe cleaners for wreaths, ribbon, red puff balls, jute twine to accent
• Hot glue and glue gun

Directions:

I applied two good coats of spray paint allowing each to dry well in between.  Be careful to look at all of the angles
of each house as it’s easy to miss spots since they are so detailed.  Next I applied my Mod Podge everywhere I figured snow
would fall or collect on each house and sprinkled the glitter over each area.  

Once the Mod Podge and glitter were dry, I used the moss pipe cleaners and ribbons to make little wreaths to decorate
the doors of some of the houses, and a piece jute twine with puff balls glued to it for garland.  I attached each with a dab
of hot glue, and used battery operated votives inside of the large house and around each of them to make the little
glittered village glow.

I just love how they turned out!
