How To Make Burlap Christmas Trees

Happy weekend right before Thanksgiving everyone! Are you totally relaxed and have your menu planned out and turkey thawing or worried and not sure where to start? I am finding myself somewhere in between but cannot stop crafting.  Since I am beginning to decorate for Christmas this week I figured I could, should really, sneak in a couple fun projects.  It’s no secret that I LOVE burlap, and cannot get enough of the contrast between glitz and rustic.  We will call is rustic glamour, that sounds very fancy.

I have had these Styrofoam cones for a while, but just picked up the little glass candlesticks at the Dollar Tree last week.  They are continuing to stock more and more awesomespice goodies every day, I CANNOT STAY AWAY!

I have a corner kitchen sink so I have quite a bit of space behind the sink and large windows, what better than a couple rustic glamourized (that is so a word, I know it) trees to grace that little corner?

I used E-600 to attach the cones to the candlesticks, and since one cone was a bit shorter, and would be covered by burlap anyways, glued an empty cardboard ribbon spool in between to they would be the same height.

Next I used about one yard of a dark khaki, almost a mossy green burlap and cut it into three inch strips.  Starting at the base of each of the cones, I used hi-temp hot glue around the edge, then gathered the burlap and tacked it down with glue as I went.

I made them a bit uneven on purpose, and gathered more closely in a few different places to make the tree ruffles kind of fun and silly.  I used 3 strips on each tree, and once I reached the top, just pinched the burlap together and added a bit of glue to the top of the tree to hold it in place.  I have not hung anything on them yet, I am just enjoying them like they are.  I may hang some really sparkly beaded garland or too-big ornaments on them so they look fun and a little wacky.  They will fit in nicely with everything else that way.

Off to shop for my Thanksgiving ingredients and find the perfect turkey.  Have a wonderful, blessed weekend and I hope this finds you completely prepared and not procrastinating like me.  But if you are, I won’t judge, especially if you were crafting or creating, then you are in good company 🙂

xoxo, Tanya

  1. How cool! I love burlap, too. Great idea on using the candlestick as the base!

Hope you get all your Thanksgiving preparations done soon! We are going to my aunt's so I just have to bring a side dish or two. Very low stress for me haha.

  2. So adorable Tanya! You can't go wrong with burlap. This turned out really darling. I can see a grouping of three different sizes looking cute on a mantle or tablescape.

As well as up to 50 performances a year, the Musical Ride takes part in ceremonial events on Parliament Hill and in parades. Think of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Civil Rights USSC cases.
