I will admit that I have spent probably way too much for what I thought was convenience and efficiency in cleaning my home. I have begun to make my own cleaning supplies, laundry soap, and many other everyday items that I had been accustomed to buying every week. Upon reviewing (cringe) some receipts for shopping trips for supplies I knew I could do better. I purchased some Castile Soap at my local natural food store and have been using it for quite a few cleaning projects around the house. It smells fresh, crisp, and natural.
Like a clean home should smell right?
My next stop was at the Dollar Store, while I was there grabbed a stack of 12″ x 12″ microfiber cloths with microfiber on one side and the scrubbie-material on the other. I was pretty sure if I folded them in half and stitched around the edges they would stick well to the floor cleaning system wand that I already have. And….they did!
Next I filled my squirt bottle with warm water and added a couple teaspoons of Castile Soap, mixed and tried out my idea. It worked very well, dried quickly with no streaks and best of all, when the cloths are dirty, I just run a small load in the washer and let them air dry.
This was so easy that it’s hardly a post. I really need to throw something in here kind of salacious and exciting to amaze you. But that is the beauty of saving a substantial amount of money on just one thing per year. It is soooo easy, we just don’t think it could be that simple.
I keep my squirt bottle full, a stack of cleaning pads handy, and my floor cleaning wand in my pantry for quick touch ups (ie- after every meal, two toddlers in the house, you know what I am talking about) and I no longer feel like I am walking in a movie theater on $3 day, or spending money that I could otherwise be using on things I really enjoy like stockpiling my fave colors of spray paint and trips to Goodwill “just to look around”.
I hope this inspires you to look at what you are spending money on each month and calculating your yearly savings by making a few simple changes. Happy Spring Cleaning!
