If You Like It…Put A Cloche On It

Sometimes I get a song stuck in my head.  And it usually has absolutely nothing to do with anything except I find it humorous or entertaining.  When I was working on this DIY Cloche, I kept humming the Beyonce “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” song.  I have probably heard this song twice and I think it’s kind of cute.  I thought it was funny to “put a cloche on it” instead so I substituted those words and amused myself for quite a while.

I love the different cloche designs you can find: glass, chicken wire, wrought iron, and my personal favorite, Debbie’s at {re}fresh{re}style.  If you have not followed Debbie yet, she is super creative and I love her style.  So, I decided to try one of these for my bay window behind my kitchen sink.

Cloche with lemons…

Here is what I used:
  • One plastic mesh trash can {Dollar Tree} woot woot!
  • One round wooden ball (with a flat side) about 1 1/4 inches around {craft supply store}
  • E-6000 glue
  • Antique white spray paint
  • Fine sandpaper

Directions:
  • I began by gluing the wooden ball to the top of the mesh basket with glue, I allowed it to sit overnight and set
  • Next I applied two coats of antique white spray paint allowing it to dry well between coats
  • Once the paint was completely dry I used a fine grit sandpaper around the edges of the mesh and here and there to give it a distressed look.  Yep, spray paint and sand paper are amazing, and you could probably make anything look vintage by doing this.
I put a few of my favorite little treasures under my new
{and thrifty thanks to Debbie!} cloche and I am really enjoying it.

We spend so much time either in our homes,
or wanting to get home and relax after a long day.
Pretty things that make us feel good don’t need to break our budget,
nor do they need to be hard to make.
Sometimes a few simple changes are all it takes to freshen up
our space, and sometimes our day at the same time.

As always, thank you so much for reading, I appreciate you so very much!

xoxo, Tanya

  1. So creative. And Amazing.
Would have never though of being so easy. I've been babying the idea of doing some – for Easter – in chicken wire.
Thank you for inspiring me further.
