Lacy Garden Lanterns

Our Japanese Maple is in full regalia, and fanning her gorgeous feathers for Spring.  Around her are
bright pink Azaleas, and various mid to late spring flowers beginning to push through to the surface.
I was cleaning out a few bins of trim & craft supplies recently and came across a yard or so of a couple
different types of lace.  Like most craft supply hoarders, I cannot remember why or where I found them,
and since they are flat and wide, I’m not sure where I would use them.

I began looking at my jars and decided to experiment with a little Mod Podge and lace around a few different
sized jars headed for recycling.

Here is what I used to make these oh so pretty lanterns for my front yard:

  • Variety of clean, dry jars
  • Flat lace with no stretch to it
  • Mod Podge & a small foam brush
  • Thin crafting wire & needle nosed pliers
  • Waxed paper
I began by covering my work area with sheets of waxed paper, and trimmed each piece of lace to fit around
each jar, overlapping slightly in the back.  Using a foam brush, I applied a good coat of Mod Podge to each
piece of lace, and applied the lace to the glass.  As the lace dried, I pressed down on each “seam” and the edges
of the lace a bit so they were smooth when they dried.  Next I used about 2 yards of wire per jar, wrapping
each section around the top, just under the lip of the jar, and twisting to secure.  I repeated this on the
other side of the jar to create a handle, and wound the ends together to connect at the top.  This creates
a strong hanger for the lanterns.

I usually use my battery operated votive candles since I have curious little ones.  They look so pretty
in the tree during the day, I can’t wait to see what they look like when they are glowing in the evening!

Thank you as always for reading friend!

These are so pretty, Tanya! A great idea for that giant pile of lace trim that *may* be in my fabric bin 🙂
We are still struggling to get (and keep) some nice spring weather here. Many of the trees don’t even have leaves yet.
Praying an extra blessing over you and your family this Easter.

Wow, Tanya, those are fabulous! They look great in the daytime and they will probably look even prettier at night with the light shining through the lace. Thanks for sharing that idea and tutorial. I am pinning it. I saw your post over at the “Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom” link party.

What i don’t understood is if truth be told how you are no longer really a lot more neatly-preferred than you
may be right now. You’re so intelligent. You realize therefore significantly in the case of this matter, made me in my
view consider it from a lot of varied angles.
Its like women and men don’t seem to be fascinated except it
