How to make a wooden wall sconce-fixer upper style

Remember the left over pre-fab white bead board from the back of the farmhouse church pew?

Yep, we found a way to use the last of it.

I have wanted to make something I can hang these Mason jar holders on for quite a while, but to date have just incorporated them on the dining table, porch etc…

So when we saw these metal hooks at the store recently, they made me think of the chippy white Mason jar holders, and well, the rest is another DIY that used everything we already had on hand sans the hooks.

What I really love about a project like this is

  1. I did not have to buy very many supplies
  2. I was able to use leftovers from a previous project
  3. I had enough Diet Pepsi on hand to complete the project without running to the store (WIN!!!)

I am loving these full of flowers too.

This may look a bit spring-y for right now for October but feeling like we really needed to be rebels and take a risk, I plopped some pretty faux peonies and boxwood from our yard in and didn’t look back.

We began by using a 12×18″ piece of plywood, trimming some 1×2″ scraps to go around the outsides.

Next we used a bit of glue to attach the pre-fab bead board in place, and secured with a couple tiny nails from the nail pinner.

The wrought iron hangers were the last thing to go on after we stained the 1×2″ weathered grey and cut it to fit around the outside, using the nail pinner to attach it as well.

I tried a candle in there too and I love it both ways! But being a sucker for pretty peonies……

The peonies have won.

For now at least.

I have Christmas on the brain big time right now (are you holding yourself back or ready for November 1st to roll around so you can go Christmas CRAZY?) it’s killing me the waiting.

Thank you so much for reading friend, wishing you a blessed weekend!

  1. These are gorgeous, I absolutely love them Tanya! You can change them up each holiday or season, how fun. Great project! I have Christmas on the brain as well… I don´t know how long I will be able to hold up, lol!

  2. Bloggers have good reason to decorate early for your blog posts. If I even hinted at holiday decorating Mr. Furry would not be a nice fella, he gets sick of Fall decorating. I put Fall up end of Sept., he wasn’t happy, even I’m little tired of it. Maybe cause I do too much in our small living room. Keep making and changing some of decorations. I put them out on front porch to keep peace. I love making Fall decorations.
Where did you find those lantern holders, they are wonderful? Would so love to find 2-4 of them so would have leeway to make more if desired.Think maybe my worst fault is going overboard with too much, ya’ think?
Our youngest daughter comes over often, remarks we have too much stuff. She does too but has lot bigger house than we do.
Love how your lanterns look on bead board backing, wonderful and quite chic. You have inspired me, would love to hang those in living room on either side of our shutter shelf (a.k.a. mantle). Please let me know about those lantern hangers.
    Enjoy rest of weekend
