Cozy spots for Christmas: Merry + bright Christmas home office

Well before Thanksgiving I had visions of creating a spot in our home to read, relax, and enjoy the season away from it all.

Enter my home office which is STILL going thru what seems to be a three year makeover, but we put that on hold to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.

On the other side of this home office in the front of our house is my very messy desk, the computer I use for blogging, and an array of fabric swatches and crafting supplies.

But the other side of the office, right by the window, is where I created a cozy spot to enjoy one of our Christmas Trees, and some of my favorite things.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,

but the fire is so delightful.

And since we’ve no place to go,

let it snow, let it snow. let it snow.

The living room holds the church pew now that the weather has turned and I don’t want it to get ruined on the porch.

So the little green dresser needed a new home for the winter, and the office was the best spot.

I shopped the house and brought my sheet music wreath in, hanging it above the dresser.

A huge and very heavy silver tray ($15 Goodwill score!) is filled with little trees, Mason jar snow globes, pinecones and sprigs of greenery.

Our living room tree (will be sharing soon) is from a local tree farm, but this one I have had for a while, a pre-lit artificial tree that is just the right size.

I like my Nico chair by Sauder in this cozy reading spot by the window, piled with a warm blanket and furry pillow for chilly afternoons.

I picked up a few new ornaments this year, and mixed with some of my favorites I love the soft colors and joyful vibe when it all comes together.

As I write this there is a 7 year old and a small dog snuggled up in the chair.

The lights are twinkling, and I enjoy a cup of coffee, navigating my way from the office door to the desk around a few hundred legos on the floor.

That’s what the green dresser holds.

Lots of legos and a few barbies too.

So it’s a shared space that I can neaten up to enjoy a cup of coffee and read, or stumble over toys and hope I found them all before I vacuum.

Nothing in our home is fancy, or very expensive.

Most things have been repurposed, recovered, or painted to make them new to us.

But I wouldn’t have it any other way, in our little farmhouse in the burbs, with the people I love, and that love me.

It doesn’t show signs of stopping,

and I brought some corn for popping.

The lights are turned way down low,

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Thank you to the wonderful, creative Katrin for putting this together, and thank you for reading friend!

Until next time, may your heart and home be full of everything you love,

xo, Tanya

  1. Love that song! And what a neat idea to have a cozy spot in the office! When we lived in Canada, we had a play-family-office room and a formal living room, so I used to love to sometimes just go and sit with a coffee in the playroom and watch the girls and then when I had enough, go back do my stuff, lol. So, I can imagine how much fun this must be when your little one plays legos and at the same time you can snuggle up in that chair and admire the beautiful decor you’ve created! It is all so festive!

    1. That sounds like my home office, which seems to be a mish-mash of spaces to make & create legos or wreaths! Thank you so much Katrin 🙂

  2. Tanya, your space really appeals to me. I love that you’ve got items that have been repurposed and upcycled – it adds so much to the overall feeling of warmth and coziness that we all hope to create in our own homes. It really goes to show that we don’t need to spend a ton of money to create a warm and inviting space – which you’ve done here in spades!

  3. Beautiful cozy corner Tanya! The styling on your little green dresser looks great and I love that paper wreath. Your office sounds like mine. You’ve definitely shown you don’t have to spend a lot to create a lovely home!

    1. Thank you so much Linda, it’s a work in progress but a comfy space to create. And that is all I can ask for 🙂

      xoxo, Tanya
