Mini ice cream sandwiches + making the everyday stuff special

Are they done yet?
Mooooooooommmmmm….are they done yet?
Can we have one now, like, the first ones that are done?
Yes, this is a real conversation, and battery of questions all fired at yours truly while
my kids waited the long and painful 5 minutes it took for me to make these SUPER
cute little ice cream sandwiches.
I love to make the everyday special.
The moments I remember growing up that meant so much, and I hold close to my heart are those that
were everyday moments, made special.
Special because of the love and time that goes into creating a home and nest for our families.
My Grandma Edith made everything special, it’s just the way she did everything in her life.
With purpose, compassion & love.

When I was a little girl I wanted to bring my favorite doll to school for show and tell, but I couldn’t find
her outfit in the rush to get ready and out the door that day.
Grandma sat down at her sewing machine, and with a few pretty, bright pink pieces of leftover fabric,
she made the best dress my doll ever had.
I hugged her close all day, and only she and I knew the secret of how quickly her dress came together
that morning, minutes before I ran out the door.  The dress represented who my Grandma was, and
her love and serving heart for her family.
Oh how I hope my kids will remember moments like this, and not frustrated mom, or tired mom.
Or mom on her smart phone.  Because none of us are perfect, but we try.
And it seems like it’s the trying that we remember as we grow up and look back on those who have
invested in us.  They tried.  They cared.  They gave of themselves.
No one needed a dress for a doll today, but I had promised that I would whip up a mid-afternoon
treat, and with three ingredients, the kids were all very happy with the payoff for all the waiting.
Well, the five minutes of waiting they endured as they watched me make these mini ice cream
sandwiches.
They couldn’t be easier, and you probably already noticed I used Nilla Wafers, we always seem to have
a box of these in the pantry.  I made each little sandwich with vanilla ice cream, and put them back in
the freezer until we were ready to eat them.
The 2nd edition that is, which was just after dinner.
I rolled the sides of each mini sandwich in sprinkles, and served them right away.
There was happiness and peace in the land, six sticky hands, three sticky faces.
And one happy mama.
What are the little things that mean a lot to you and your family? I would love to hear about your
favorite ways to make the everyday special!!

Have a blessed & wonderful day friends, love you SO!

  2. Oh man! This is my favorite dessert ever and these are so colorful and fun! Back when I was a teacher I had a mini freezer in my room so that I could keep homemade ice cream sandwiches in there. Pinning! Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us at The Makers Tanya!

  3. After I initially commented I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments
are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same
comment. There has to be a way you are able to remove me from
    that service? Thanks a lot!

  4. Its such as you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, such as
you wrote the e-book in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few % to power the
message house a little bit, however instead of that, this is
magnificent blog. An excellent read. I’ll certainly be back.
