Hello friends!
I seem to be on a find-dated-furniture-and-paint-it-every-color-you-love kick the last few weeks.
But a solid piece of furniture that needs a facelift is so hard to pass up!
That may have something to do with the shrinking space to park my car in the garage, but that’s for another day.
Today we are PAINTING. And giving a sad, dated coffee table a new lease on life.
You can see the potential already but right now this coffee table is not-so-fabulous. YET!
This little gem was a Facebook find and while she was solid, the oak-ey finish was not going to work any longer.
Here is the before…..kind of sad. BUT! I will show you how I took this tired coffee table…
And breathed some new life into her with paint! Here is the after, and next I will show you how I did it:
We started out by painting the table and drawer fronts aqua, and the hardware a satin black. All spray paint yet again!
It’s hard to beat and there are so many colors to choose from these days, but this girl just needed to be aqua.
She told me.
In that non-verbal please-paint-me-I’m-suffering kind of way.
And for a week she sat while I decided what to do next.
Here is what I used:
- aqua and grey spray paint
- masking tape
- scissors
- masker (these are pretty cheap and worth every penny for all of your painting around the house!
- fine grit sand paper
- steel wool
- matte poly sealer for the top
- brush
Inspiration struck this weekend and I carefully taped off this herringbone pattern on the top, and used a masker around the edges to protect the areas I did not want grey.
A couple light coats over the exposed areas on the top, and about 30 minutes dry time, and the tape came off.
Those 5 gallon buckets under each leg SAVE YOUR BACK, plus you can use them for probably 1.2 million things around your house. I am pretty sure you need them in your life.
I let the grey continue to dry for a couple hours, then did a light sanding and used some steel wool to smooth out the top and give it a lightly-distressed vibe.
I love the way it turned out!
What a difference from before to after, can you believe how transforming paint and some elbow grease are? It never ceases to amaze me.
Do you have a piece of furniture that you love but are tired of the finish or color?
Maybe you want to try your first painted furniture project, all you need to transform a tired piece of furniture into something that makes you smile when you pass by are a few supplies and a thrift store or online score. We paid $20 for this table and I am so glad I decided to go with the herringbone pattern.
Could you do me a solid and pin this project to your favorite Pinterest boards? Share on Facebook, tweet or just shout from the rooftop, whatever your social media style is awesome and SO appreciated.
As always that you so much for creating with me today friend!
