Patriotic Matchbox Printables

Happy June, twelve0eight readers!

What a wonderful time of year this is!  I love the carefree days of summer, the long warm evenings, the starry nights, and I really love the 4th of July.

Maybe it’s because my birthday is the day after the 4th, but it’s always been an extra special time of year for me.

Last year I found some adorable matchbox covers on Pinterest that I used for the 4th.  They were such a hit (especially with my boys who enjoyed having their very own box of matches a little TOO much) that I wanted to do it again this year, but with a new look.  So, I took matters into my own hands.  I got on PicMonkey and came up with my own design for this year’s celebration.

These are really a no-brainer, but I did put together a list of supplies and a simple how-to for you.  Easiest project ever!

SUPPLIES
Mini matchboxes (I used diamond’s penny matches)
Adhesive (I used mounting squares like these)
Printable matchbox covers (see link below)

HOW TO
*Print (I used card stock) and cut out the matchbox covers.
*Apply adhesive to the matchboxes.
*Stick the patriotic covers to the matchbox.

Such a simple way to add a bit of red, white, and blue festivity.

You can give these out with a box of sparklers at dusk during your 4th of July party, or use them as party favors like in the picture above.  No matter how you use them, I promise they’ll be a hit.  Just be careful to monitor little children with these.  My boys did each have their own box last year, but could only use them with mom or dad’s help to light sparklers.

Oh, and diamond has gone green, which is great!  I’m all about recycling and taking care of Mother Earth, but in the process they’ve changed the tips of their matches to green.  Not a big deal at all, (I’ll have to remember them for Christmas or St. Patrick’s Day) but the red tips do fit the patriotic color scheme a bit better.  I did use a few larger matches with red tips for my photographs because I just couldn’t bring myself to put green-tipped matches in with all the red, white, and blue.  If the green tips are a deal breaker for you, then go ahead and check out different brands of matches to find some red tips.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I have (and I haven’t even given them away yet)!

I will be back here on the actual 4th of July, so I’ll wait until then to give my patriotic wishes.
Until then, you can visit me at Blissful Roots for all sorts of red, white, and blue ideas.
