Romantic farmhouse style master bedroom

Hi friend,  this post has been a long time coming.

Not only because our master bedroom was in desperate need of a makeover, but also from the five of us taking turns with a couple nasty colds the past couple of months.

We appear to be on the mend, the sun is out today, and it’s time to share (finally!) the progress we have made.

Since most of us are never really “done” and I kind of think that is part of the fun, watching our homes change and evolve, I will share with you what is done and what I am working on.

Before there was a giant treadmill in the bedroom, and to say it was gathering dust would be a fair statement.

I wonky drying rack (the clothes to air dry now stay in the laundry room-that reveal soon!) and just stuff that didn’t go together.

We began by putting a fresh coat of a light grey paint on the walls, and moving the bed to the wall with the window.

The mini-blinds were removed, and this warm bamboo shade hung in their place.

Since I have a lot of white and grey, I LOVE how much warmth the bamboo brings to our room.

Our white burlap curtains make this space so cozy, and hanging them as high as we could and to the side of the window on each side gives the illusion of a larger window.

I found this beautiful custom slipcovered loveseat online, and drove way up in the mountains to buy it from an online friend in a local Facebook selling group.

Are you part of one of these groups in your area? I am totally hooked and we meet at all over the place, bartering and buying from each other in grocery store parking lots out of our cars.

I white-washed and distressed a large dresser I picked up for $30 this summer, putting the hardware back on after a good coat of paint.

My favorite green dresser recently received a makeover and I am loving how elegant she looks now with her spindly legs, wooden wheels and new black distressed finish.

We are still looking for a large area rug, and there is a small wall between the closet and master bath door that I need to address.

The French Country bench we made from an old glass-top coffee table sits at the end of the bed.

And the bathroom….that is coming.  Soon.  Hopefully.  Ha ha, everything always takes longer than we intend doesn’t it?

Working on:

  • Area rug for under the bed
  • We are getting a new King bed (this is a Queen) and will be making the headboard from reclaimed wood.  At least that is the plan!
  • Install new organization system in the master walk in closet
  • Update the master bath

There is a ways to go but I am so pleased with our progress.  Having a get-away spot within your home to read, relax, listen to music or or just be is more wonderful than I thought it would be.

Pin tuck white comforter from WalMart (I never dreamed I would find what I wanted on a paper towel and cleaning supply run) it’s so soft and fits perfectly.

The bamboo shade for our window we found at Home Depot.

Most everything else we have purchased from local artists, vendors or re-purposed from something we found while thrifting.

Some planning, patience, paint and elbow grease seem to be the recipe we have found for bringing our home up to date for our tastes, while keeping an eye on our budget too.

Thank you so much for reading friend, as always, may your heart and home be full of everything you love…
