Rustic Painted Garden Planters

Next to the thrill of the hunt, is surely the thrill
of creating something for next to nothing.
Spray paint is one of my favorite ways to transform
and renew something old or outdated.
In this case, I had two square plastic garden planters
from Dollar Tree that looked a bit too new.
I picked up these planters recently so I could
“transplant” two indoor topiary that I already had.
I began by using Rust-Oleum spray paint in
Heirloom White.  I used three coats on each planter
allowing each coat to dry well before applying another.
Next I used my large (5″) French Script Number
stencils, some black acrylic paint, and stenciled
the numbers onto each container.
Once the stenciled numbers were dry, I used a
220 grit (fine grit) sandpaper, and distressed the edges
and surfaces of the planter.  I did not bother painting
the inside as it would not show.
Next I used some Rust-Oleum clear matte sealer
to protect my design, and prevent any
chipping of paint.
I placed each topiary in their new pots, and
surrounded each with burlap scraps to fill the pot.
The burlap balanced out the pots so they didn’t look
too fancy.  I wanted them pretty, but still
 rustic-farm-house-ey.
All done, and residing next to my
Junky Tiered Stand (for now at least)
If you missed how I made this Junky Stand
you can read about it here.
Total cost: $2 for the square planters since
I already had everything on hand.
Not too shabby.
Thank you so much for creating and
decorating with me here at twelveOeight.

Sweet paint job! As much as I love to spray paint, I've never tried this particular kind – I feel a paint job coming on 😉

This design is steller! You most certainly know how
to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved
to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job.
I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!
