Setting a casual + elegant thanksgiving table

I find myself so excited to decorate for winter and Christmas that I need to slow my roll a bit and enjoy November. As a kid Thanksgiving was always my Mom and Grandparents, the food wasn’t fancy but it was good. And my Grandma always brought out her lace tablecloth, cherished china, and of course, the gravy boat.

I have been doing my own Thanksgiving now for probably at least 25 years, wow that sounds like a long time! I love planning the meal, listening to family laugh and watch everyone enjoy a full belly and usually a nice nap afterwards.

But part of the fun for me too is the setting of the table. We have a long farmhouse style table Troy and I built, and on one side a reclaimed church pew resides. The ends and other side have always had our painted white chairs with a black floral fabric on the seats but I recently switched it up a bit.

I found two chairs at a vintage shop recently and they were in need of some love. I knew I did not want them bright yellow so I decided that black would look lovely, and a bit moody which is fun. Some leopard fabric on the seats and they gave the table a new look at each end!

But I have to show you the before, yep this is how they looked when I found them 🙂

I am always amazed by the transformative power of paint!

Don’t be afraid to try something new and mix modern and vintage, old and new!

I found this beautiful vase in one of our favorite shops about an hour North of us. I loved the colors, and some dried and paper fall florals went well with the colors of the vase.

I added a bit of gold leaf to the two carved candle holders, a recent Goodwill score.

The vintage silver plate flatware is one of my favorite finds, all from the original Multnomah Hotel in Portland, OR. Amelia Earhart stayed there and they even flew two planes off the roof for different events! History nerd up in here 😉

I just found the pottery soup tureen recently and loved it immediately. It got me to thinking about my great-grandmother’s pink wine glasses and things I already had on hand that would go great with it! Penny is fast asleep on the back of the couch as you can see, not too concerned about planning for Thanksgiving I guess 🙂

Thrifted plates, Hobby Lobby salad plates all layered on a green-grey velvet curtain running opposite on the table. It all kind of fell together using the soup tureen and the vase as a starting point. I love how it turned out! While I must admit I put away the pink glasses for now, as to avoid getting hit with a stray nerf bullet. The rest is still out on our table, it makes me happy when I walk by.
