Shabby Home Office Mini Makeover

We have been in our home for about 3 1/2 years now, and I love it.  The location is great, and it has been a wonderful home for our growing family.  We are currently leasing it, and I would like to buy it someday if the opportunity presents itself.  In the meantime, I am working around the oak trim, and cabinets secretly imagining them with white paint and iron hardware.  But for now I do what we all do, and that is work around what we have.  Making the best out of the oak situation seems to be the theme lately as the hubs and I are going room by room, decorating, painting, and turning this house into a space that reflects our lifestyle and tastes.

Here is what our little mini home office looks like after I made a few changes, organized what was out of control (paper, mail, bills, magazines) and brought a bit of new life back to the area.

This is what the space looked like before.  We homeschool so I have a lot of stuff, much of which I am realizing I do not need.  This calender was cute and fun to make, but my almost six year old rarely uses it and is using a regular calendar more.

So, I painted the two wooden file boxes “Pebble” in Krylon satin spray paint, and used a pretty stencil, flip-flopping the pattern above and below the label area on each box.

I used my fave charcoal acrylic paint, and also painted the top edge of the box the same color as the stencil so it gave it a nice finished look.

Then I let them dry, and begin to sand….

And sand…

And I like the way they turned out! It is not a dramatic change, and cost less than $10 since I already had the other pieces that I had picked up while thrifting or going to yard sales for one or two dollars.

Here is a peek at my little home office area now.  I think of it kind of like a little botox.  Not a full face lift, but just enough to smooth out a few wrinkles.

I’m so glad you came by today, it’s sunny today here in the Pacific Northwest, which means my kids have been playing outside since about 7:30 this morning, and I have my painting clothes on.  You have to take advantage of the sun when it is out, and make the most with what you have right now!
Have a blessed day- Hugs, Tanya
