Shabby Paris Towel Holder

I am so excited to share my latest upcycle with you! My sister just returned from France, and will be visiting soon. I wanted something pretty for the guest bathroom to hold towels with a nod to her recent travels, and I think I may have found just the thing.
I found this box (bor-ing!) at one of my favorite thrift stores recently and would typically not have grabbed it, but I love the bamboo inset, and figured I couldn’t go wrong with the $3 price tag.
I liked the dark color that was already on the inside and outside edges, so I taped off the areas around the textured inset I wanted to paint, and gave it a few good coats of Krylon satin white spray paint.
I played around with the layout for my stencils, trimmed them down a bit and used black acrylic paint and my sponge paint pouncer to stencil on the images.
After the paint was dry, I used #220 sandpaper to distress the sides, bottom and edges of the towel box.
And this is what I ended up with! I filled my “new” French-inspired towel box full of soft white towels, and some pretty smelling soap, and she is ready to grace the guest bath counter.

I had to sneak in the name of my blog too, which was the house number of the home I grew up in.  My grandparents built it, farmed the land it sits on, and sat on apple crates around our humble kitchen table in order to finish the house where they raised their family, and ultimately retired.  I don’t know how long the home will stay in the family, but four generations of our family have lived there, and made memories within it’s walls.  I love my home, but I sure do miss the carefree days of running through the orchard, the smell of oats in the barn, and juicy fresh peaches.
Wishing you a blessed, wonderful day full of the stuff that memories are made of
xoxo, Tanya

  1. Well look at that! That turned out perfectly! Your stenciling is drip free – how do yo do that? I always have so many problems with paint leaking under the stencil. Your sister will love this – she may even want to take it home with her!
