Easy white Christmas wreath + burning the banana bread

Do you ever feel like you don’t accomplish enough?

Like simplicity or relaxing and letting some stuff just go is something you’re just not good at?

I have not a confession or a secret to tell you, but a statement.

It’s a statement because anyone who knows me knows I forget things sometimes.

Or I glue my fingers together.

Right after I burned banana bread. [Read more…]

Cozy spots for Christmas: Merry + bright Christmas home office

Well before Thanksgiving I had visions of creating a spot in our home to read, relax, and enjoy the season away from it all.

Enter my home office which is STILL going thru what seems to be a three year makeover, but we put that on hold to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.

On the other side of this home office in the front of our house is my very messy desk, the computer I use for blogging, and an array of fabric swatches and crafting supplies.

But the other side of the office, right by the window, is where I created a cozy spot to enjoy one of our Christmas Trees, and some of my favorite things.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,

but the fire is so delightful. [Read more…]

DIY Galvanized Plate Chargers

I have always wanted a set of beautiful plate chargers, especially for the holidays.

And, being a thrifty mama I have had a really hard time justifying the price tag to amass enough of these to create a full place setting around our farmhouse table.

I have thought of picking them up at Dollar Tree, and painting them, but I just had not found a paint that looked close enough yet to the look I was going for.

Galvanized steel is kind of my jam right now.

We found a huge vintage galvanized handled tub on a local Facebook buying/selling site for lovers of shabby vintage goodness.  I will share it when I am done with the living room for Christmas.

I love it.

And once that galvanized goodness came into the house and waited for the tree to come home from the woods recently, I knew I needed to find a paint that looked as close as possible for my plate chargers. [Read more…]

October Vignettes- Apples + aqua dining table setting

While we are still having some warm weather in the Pacific Northwest, Fall is certainly upon us.

The hydrangeas have turned from their gorgeous blues to soft green and pink tones.

The evenings have a chill that creeps in a little earlier than it did a few weeks ago.

Washed canvas pumpkins + early fall

It didn’t take much for the Fall Bug to hit hard here at casa twelveOeight.

One rainy afternoon and a couple fall Scentsy cubes and I found myself going thru my fall decor in the garage…

Pinning some casseroles…

And thinking up a new way to ease our home into early fall without too much of a backlash from the rest of the tribe.

We have had many days in the 90’s and even over 100 degrees in the Pacific Northwest lately.

To say I am looking forward to some rain seems a little strange, but that is just too hot for this girl.

And, I happen to adore Fall, and everything about it. [Read more…]

5 things to make and bake right now for fall

I have a whole lot of fall goodness in the works right now.

We had a 100 degree day this week, needless to say it almost took away my Fall Mojo.

But cooler days have returned and so has the itch to cozy up the house and make some Fall stuff.

But before I get ahead of myself, I have had so much fun looking at some of the fun fall DIY’s and noms we have made the past few years! [Read more…]

How to dry hydrangeas + slowing your roll

The North side of our house has four gargantuan (that’s a real word right?) hydrangea plants.

These things are huge, gorgeous and they have intimidated me for 8.5 years.

This was the year I was going to win at hydrangea-ing.

For real. [Read more…]

Shabby sewing table turned desk before + after!

You wouldn’t believe it, but this desk was a break-away top sewing table in her former life.  A giant hole in the center of the desk top with two sketchy pieces of wood sitting inside.

We drove out to check it out as it was for sale on Offer Up, and I thought we would be saying, thank you and heading back home.

That is not how things went down, and I should probably know that when an impossible challenge is in front of us, Troy goes into major trouble shooting mode.

Knowing that he loves an impossible challenge, we headed back to Vancouver from Portland with the questionable project in the truck bed. [Read more…]

Chindi style no-sew area rag rug

I have had a stack of these Dollar Tree rag rugs FOREVER.

They are in the “bin of conviction” (the things I HAD TO HAVE to make something cool then they sit for a long time)

Yeah, that bin.

Tell me I’m not the only one who may have more than one of these had-to-have-it stashes?

Oh good.

I have down-sized a bit over time but I am glad I have the stash of supplies that I have collected (yes, it’s an official collection of amazing stuff) because you never know when inspiration is going to STRIKE!

Yep, sometimes you get an itch to make something cool and there you are, lots of ideas and no supplies.

So, that is exactly what happened in this case.

I loved the colors of these small rag rugs so of course, I cleaned the store out however many months ago. [Read more…]

DIY geometric painted brick vase

I am so not ready for Fall.

Well, that’s not entirely true.

I do love Fall, and Fall decorating and thrifty Fall crafts, but before I am ready for PUMPKIN EVERYTHING I need some more summer.

This week I popped into JoAnn’s and saw this pretty faux bloom in soft pinks and tan with a touch of gold.  It was in with their Fall decor.  I held my breath by the cinnamon pinecones to protect myself from a full Fall takeover, grabbed my loot and headed home.

I wanted to do something pretty with this fluffy faux rose and it made me think of how pretty something soft like this looks with something more edgy or utilitarian.

Like a brick. [Read more…]
