I am making some progress in between windstorms & fences/trees toppling over on Abbie’s bedroom
design. Since I haven’t painted yet (ok, I have not chosen a paint color yet, I will need your opinion
on that early next week) some of the things I have made and pulled together are in the playroom for now.
It rained like crazy all week, and it continues today. With the rain came a windstorm that took down my
favorite tree, but it happened during the night and no one was hurt. The kids thought the broken fence
and huge tree on it’s side were amazing. So, we focused on the positive and decided that the backyard
has more sunlight now. I’m not quite there yet, I miss my tree. But, when life gives us broken fences,
I guess we just make it an indoor crafting week. Or lemonade. Crafting and lemonade will work too.
I repainted this dresser actually for our bedroom, but I think it may work well in Abbie’s room. I am
not sure if I want to leave it two-tone like it is (I just white-washed the body of the dresser and knobs
in white chalk paint) or I want to paint the drawer fronts too and add darker hardware. Thoughts??
I pulled in the yellow chair that I have used in the playroom, and a few things I have made recently
for the bedroom redesign like the paper & lace dream catcher & this DIY modern wall art we made
this week.
I used a large piece of wood that came out of an armoire (an unused shelf inside) and kept it because,
well, who throws away wood? I wanted to create something that was bright and fun, and pretty for
her wall that will have a good visual impact. But, since we like to move stuff around like, all the time,
something I could use in other areas of the house too.
I chose a leaf green, aqua, orchid, grey, and gold for the colors. Using masking tape I taped off the design
with exposed areas of varying widths (the larger painted areas you see) and painted the colors on first.
I let them dry for a few hours, removed the tape, then painted on the gold where the tape had been.
I painted the remaining stripes gold freehand which gave the bright geometric design some softness,
I love how it turned out!
The supplies I used for the Geometric Wall Art were the board (you can use something you already
have or pick up a piece at The Home Depot or Lowe’s as well) masking tape, acrylic paints, and a
small paint brush. Easy, and free since I had everything on hand already.

Supper cute wall art. I can never decide on how to paint/stain furniture when I’m refinishing it either!
It’s hard to decide right?! Thanks so much for your sweet message, xo- Tanya
I really like the DIY modern art, and especially that you reused a shelf, awesome!
Hi Kimm,
Thank you very much 🙂 you gotta love a free or almost free project!

LOVE the artwork!! Super cute. As for the dresser…I can see it going either way depending on the rest of the room. I will be cute whatever you decide! Cheers!
Thank you Suzanne 🙂 I am still undecided, but I sure do appreciate your feedback, and if I don’t like it, I can always paint it again!!

I’m just getting started on a little girl bedroom makeover. I like your color choices. I might be crazy and just continue with the colors and design in the artwork onto the dresser drawers, or some combination thereof.
Hi Julie!
Thank you:) I wanted to give her a space that could evolve and grow along with her (ok mine too) tastes and style changes-best of luck with your little girl room redo too!!

I just love the color of your chippy chair! It’s such a fun and different choice.
Hi Cassie,
Thank you so much! I love yellow, but wasn’t sure it would be the best color for the chair initially. But now I couldn’t imagine it any other color 🙂
Have a great week- xo
