Upcycled Embroidery Hoop Wreath + Merry Printable Banner

I would love to tell you that I have learned the art of embroidery.

I have not.

It’s on my stuff-I-really-want-to-learn-but-I-get-so-distracted list.

Upcycling a sweet thrift store find however is something we specialize in around my house.
And today I am sharing a sneak peek at my Christmas Home Tour coming soon.
This Embroidery Hoop Wreath is thrifty from top to bottom.

The “sweater” was actually a Land’s End blanket I picked up at Goodwill last spring, and
drug all over with me all summer long.  When the frayed edges could not stand another wash,
my white sweater blanket became part of a winter quilt (still in the works.)

The rest I was not sure what to do with until I saw a couple embroidery hoops filled with
upcycled sweaters for Fall and thought I could make my own that ties in with my red and white theme this year.

Here is what I used:

  • One embroidery hoop (I found mine at Goodwill for $2)
  • White sweater or blanket to reuse
  • Scissors & hole punch
  • Hot glue
  • 2 berry sprays
  • Printable below, trimmed and strung on twine or lettering of your own
  • Twine to make a wreath hanger

Directions:

I separated the rings, and moved them around until I found the right part of the cable knit pattern I
wanted to use for the center of the wreath.  After putting the rings back together and tightening the
screw at the top, I turned the hoop over and trimmed the excess material from the back.

I chose the placement of the berry sprays and glued them in place, but they needed something more
so using a strip of leftover cable knit blanket, I scrunched and glued a bow to go in the center of where
the sprays meet.  The wreath was pretty like it was, but I really wanted to find a way to add some black
to make it pop.  And, since I am all for merry-making every chance I get, I thought a black and white
printable banner would be perfect for the wreath.

If you use my printable for your lettering, just make sure to print it out on white card stock paper so
it’s nice and sturdy, and hangs well on the twine.  I punched small holes and ran a long piece of twine
through the top of each piece, and used a dot of glue on the back of the wreath to hold the ends of the
twine in place.

So what do you think, do you have an old sweater lurking about or a cable knit blanket that has seen the
height of it’s career already? Well, if you do (or if you find one on the cheap at your local thrift store) you
have the list of other items needed to put together a fun upcycled wreath for Winter!

Thank you so much for creating and making with me today friend, wishing you a blessed day!!
