Sometimes a piece of furniture doesn’t
need a whole face lift. What it needs is a
quick nip and tuck to make it perfect for us.
It may be a chair that you have recovered
and painted more times than you can remember.
Or a side table that has survived every move
and decorating style back past mauve,
geese and bunnies.
This step stool is new to me, recently given
to me by my mother in law whom I love dearly.
She has passed a few treasures on lately and I will
share them as I make them mine.
This little step stool was originally made by
my brother in law and has moved around
quite a bit. I have had an old plastic step stool
that the kids use to reach the bathroom sink or kitchen
counter for too long. It was time for the
plastic step stool to retire.
I used masking tape to tape
out a nice grain sack inspired design,
and a pretty damask stencil to soften
the sharp lines. I used a charcoal acrylic
paint, which became a pretty grey
once I used sandpaper too smooth
and distress the wood all over.
That’s all she needed. A little paint
to refresh her and get her
ready to be drug around the house.
And undoubtedly be the helper for many
a sneaky trip up on the kitchen counter
to reach just one more cookie.
And they think I don’t know they do that.
Now they can sneak those cookies
in style…
It was so sunny today, what a blessing
to work outside even if it is still cold.
The sun just lifts the spirits and makes
me want to make pretty things.
Have a wonderful weekend friends!
xo, Tanya

Looks fantastic, Tanya! I love how you made it your own. 🙂
It's amazing how just a few details can make something come to life. Such a pretty update, Tanya.

It's a very cute makeover Tanya. I'm sure it's so much nicer than the plastic one.
Love the gain sack strip and the graphic.
When I first saw this I thought it was fabric covered… ~ love IT!
