So I found this guy for $3.99 at Goodwill recently and it was half off day for purple tags, so this thrifting trip started out pretty good.
Thrifting is one of those things you have to do often in seems. I have heard people say, I went once and I did not find anything.
You have to go all the time, at least I do, hence the stuff I have in my trunk that sometimes takes a few days to make it into the house.
Tell me I am not alone in this, no? Whew ok good, I knew I could be real about my thrifting.
I pushed my cart thru the store in the back of my mind thinking what I am going to do to zhush up this little plastic pumpkin with dead batteries.
As I looked for vintage goodies, things to redo or paint, I started to think what this plastic jack-o-lantern could become.
I rushed home with my treasures and dug thru my paint and craft supplies.
A glittered, thrifty jack-o-lantern was born, after a little elbow grease of course.
I started by removing the light and battery case at the bottom as my plan was to set the jack-o-lantern on an electric votive.
I chose a chalky white for the paint, and when it was dry I painted the stem a fresh light green.
As the paint dried I thought back on contact paper covered old cans for storage in my first apartment and many handmade curtains and pillows over the last 30+ years.
My oldest grew up watching me make and sell art, scour flea markets and thrift stores for items to wear and things to turn into something amazing for our home.
Now my youngest loves to join us, it’s so fun 🙂
I gave the surface a light sand all over with a fine grit sandpaper once the paint was dry and brushed off any dust before applying mod podge.
I went in sections from the top to the bottom first applying a light coat of matte mod podge, then generously sprinkling clear glitter on each area.
Once Jack was dry, it was time to light him up. It almost has a vintage vibe with the crackled looking paint and sparkles.
I love how he turned out! What do you think?
Here he is on a bench out front of our house, all sparkly and ready for trick or treaters to arrive 🙂
As always thank you so much for reading, I hope your week is off to an amazing start!
